We are pleased to announce a number of career opportunities around our geographical area for Gas Operatives.

The role will involve working alongside a team leader carrying out repairs to public reported gas escapes and replacement work on gas mains and services.

This is a physically demanding role and requires a certain level of fitness.You will be required to excavate in the highway and footpath, lay PE pipe and undertake gas connection work.

The role will involve you working 41.25 hours a week on a variable shift pattern between the hours of 7am until 10pm and will include weekend working.

Role duties

  • Whilst carrying out mains and service replacement work, repairs to public reported gas escapes and other related aspects of gas distribution work, the job holder will assist the Team Leader in the excavation, pipe laying, pipe jointing, connection and repair activities which are required to ensure the integrity of the gas network.
  • Across all activities the job holder will, with the appropriate training, operate and use mobile plant, mechanical lifting and handling equipment, tools and other equipment in a safe and competent manner ensuring that they are correctly maintained and stored, e.g. mini excavator, pneumatic tools etc.
  • To operate in accordance with relevant HSE Legislation, Company Standards and Codes of Practice.
  • The job holder will communicate with colleagues, customers and members of the general public in order to request and process information.
  • The job holder will be required to carry out driving duties as part of their role, or be primarily assigned to driving for the purpose of collecting or delivering materials and equipment.

Your knowledge, skills and experience

  • You will be a self-starter and understand the importance of a zero-tolerance safety culture and delivering excellent customer service every time.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Be able to participate in a standby rota
  • Fitness to meet the physical demands of the role
  • The ability to work in a team
  • Customer focused
  • Considerate and polite in all situations

You will be fully trained to operate tools and equipment appropriate to this role however we ask that:-

  • You can start with us on the 3rd September 2018 for your induction.
  • You can ensure you are available for the 4 week period after your start date so that you are able to complete your training with 100% attendance
  • Have eligibility to work in the UK
  • Hold a full valid driving licence
  • You are willing to work the variable shift patterns and participate in an out of hours' standby rota.
