Management Accountant, Highclere Castle, Newbury, Circa £35,000

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Management Accountant to join a globally recognised brand and one of the most famous historic houses in England.

Highclere castle has become well known as the location of the successful TV series Downton Abbey and attracts thousands of visitors and many events throughout the year. Highclere is also a working estate with its own farming and property management businesses.

Lord and Lady Carnarvon are looking for a highly competent Management Accountant to to be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Castle’s finances and development of the Castle's financial systems.

The successful candidate will be joining a wonderful team that are enthusiastic and passionate about the beautiful place and heritage of the Castle. 

Main duties include:

  • The production of all financial statements and statutory accounts.
  • Assisting in setting budgets and monitoring performance.
  • Manage and process all aspects of bookkeeping
  • Enter Castle sales invoices and receipts, as per Castle database.
  • Produce weekly Debtors report for Castle sales invoices.
  • Process supplier invoices, including allocation of correct VAT coding,
  • Check supplier statements and liaise with suppliers re queries
  • Produce a weekly report of payments due and make weekly payments by BACS and cheque.
  • Update and reconcile the bank accounts daily.
  • Reconcile Petty Cash payments provided by staff, on a monthly basis and record in accounting software.
  • Prepare VAT return quarterly.
  • Produce Monthly Management Reports and supporting information
  • Quarterly inter-company recharges

 Qualifications and experience required for this role:

  • Financial background, either by experience or academic qualifications
  • AAT qualified
  • Previous experience in a similar role essential
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Experience in property / Estate work and property open to the public
  • Attention to detail and highly numerate
  • Familiarity with the different VAT rates and an understanding of their implication on clients’ recovery
  • Ability to prioritise, manage own workload and work under pressure
  • “Can Do” attitude
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work to deadlines and to be adaptable to change
  • Enthusiasm to provide the highest quality service at all times
  • Computer literate with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel to perform required tasks.
