Head of Support Services 

A charity dedicated to funding research and helping families who have been affected by bowel cancer, are currently seeking a Head of Support Services to join their team.

The Services Directorate is responsible for patient and families’ information and support services, the provision of training and information for health and care professionals as well as health promotion and awareness activities in the community. 

The Head of Support Services is a unique and important leadership opportunity for someone with a clinical background who is also digitally active and aware, to lead the development and delivery of the charity’s support services for patients and their families.

You will manage and mentor a staff team which will include nurse volunteers and staff as well as others focused on supporting our patient networks, including our forum.  The team are responsible for responding to questions and queries from people who have themselves been diagnosed with bowel cancer or who have questions on behalf of someone else, and contributing to the development, update and dissemination of the charity’s patient information resources.  Working closely with the Director of Services, the Head of Support Services will also oversee the development of new support services as part of the charity’s overall services strategy.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experienced, registered General Nurse
  • Experienced cancer nurse specialist ideally with a specialism in lower GI/ colorectal care or oncology
  • Excellent working knowledge of (bowel) cancer clinical management and patient issues
  • Good understanding of psychosocial issues in relation to cancer
  • Ability to develop realistic strategies and plans
  • Ability to develop information resources for people affected by cancer
  • Ability to inspire and manage a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with confidence to deliver presentations and training sessions
  • Self-motivated with good time management skills
  • Enthusiastic, team player
  • Good understanding of the skills needed to give information and support by telephone and email to those with bowel cancer, their relatives and friends
