Reach plc is seeking to recruit an experienced media executive to join us as Digital Publishing Editor at the Leicester Mercury and oversee the digital newsroom. The position will involve managing a dynamic team of news reporters and editors in ensuring the generation, creation and publication of multimedia news content that works brilliantly across all of our digital and print platforms and which is in line with company strategy for digital growth.
You will set high standards to ensure digital targets are achieved and that our news coverage is high-quality, comprehensive and essential for our local audience. You will also play a key managerial role in creating and delivering editorial strategy for regional digital platforms including LeicestershireLive.

The Leicester Mercury's newsroom is fast-paced and busy and we are experiencing rapid growth across our digital platforms. News coverage is essential in further accelerating this digital growth. You will work closely with the Digital Development Editor (Regional) to oversee the delivery of company strategy and the further development of digital newsgathering to achieve

Key Responsibilities
- Experience of managing a digital newsgathering team, as well as in-depth understanding of live-blogging, push, SEO, analytics and digital audience behaviour
- Build collaborative relationships with other digital professionals, both within the region and nationally
- Attend external business events as and when required
- Be an advocate and ambassador for our digital publishing strategy, internally and externally
- Keep abreast of digital publishing and social media developments and suggest new content types, themes and strategies
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be passionate about developing digital audiences and engagement and have a proven record of achieving digital news objectives. As a qualified journalist and experienced manager, you will be able to demonstrate strong content management skills across multiple platforms including web, social media and app.
You will have oversight of the Leicester Mercury's team of news content editors and creators, providing clear briefings on content requirements as well as appropriate line management functions. You will also oversee a digital news list which also forms the basis of print content and take a lead role in setting the news agenda for the Leicestershire Live website.
