My client are a reputable Tier1 main contractor who are looking for an up and coming Design Coordinator/Design Manager with a passion for construction.

The Role:

A member of a pre-construction or construction team reporting to the Development Director respectively, who manages the timely delivery of technically compliant, cost efficient design solutions on construction projects during the work winning stage and/or through the project delivery stage.
•Upholds the Visions and Values of the Company
•Enables the delivery of well-considered, quality design solutions
•Plans design workloads and motivates teams of people, to work collaboratively in delivering a coordinated and coherent design
•Encourages and inspires designers to produce their best work using their full flair, experience, resources and talents in a cost effective way
•Strives to eliminate health and safety risks in the design

Responsibilities of the Design Manager/Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
•Bid/Tender Stage

The Design Manager is responsible for the review of main contract tender documentation to:
•Establish the quality of the design and verify the stage of design development
•Establish whether any elements of the design do not comply with the Employer's Requirements and issue tender queries, where appropriate, to address areas of non-compliance or conflict
•Identify, detail and evaluate areas where the compliant design could be improved such that a better value solution could be offered in the tender submission
•Identify any errors or omissions in the tender information, and provide advice on any such errors or omissions for inclusion on the Risk and Opportunities Schedule
•Confirm the design is compliant with Statutory Requirements including the Planning Permission, Building Regulations and any Contract specified Design Standards and Codes of Practice. Collate the findings and advise the Bid Manager of any matters for inclusion in the Risk and Opportunities Schedule
•Assess, in conjunction with the Planning Manager, the suitability of the proposed design with regard to the proposed method and sequence of construction and provide advice regarding proposed changes to the design which are necessary in order to allow the planned method and sequence to be adopted, such changes to be qualified in the ensuing bid

Skills, Knowledge and Experience (Essential):

•Knowledge of Building Regulations and Planning Approval process
•Proven value management skills
•Good building product knowledge
•Ability to research and assess suitable alternative products or design solutions
•In-depth knowledge of the construction process
•An understanding of corporate social responsibility and sustainability

Qualifications:
•Ideally Degree (or equivalent) in Construction Management, Structural / Civil Engineering or Architecture
