We design and manufacture components for the aerospace and defence sector which are supplied to customers worldwide. 

We are looking for someone to manage all our mechanical and electrical design activities. Our business is split 60% UK and 40% export for applications ranging from missiles, drones, fighting vehicles, radar and antenna systems to industrial and commercial test and manufacturing machinery. 

The position will be responsible for organising and directing all company design and engineering activities and for developing new opportunities. The person appointed will have two design engineers and two electronics engineers reporting directly. 

Design Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

+ The design of new slip rings in response to customer enquiries/orders 
+ Control of all existing Pandect slip ring designs and associated equipment and fixtures. 
+ Customer technical liaison
+ Managing and monitoring the performance of design office staff 
+ Managing and monitoring the performance of the electronic engineers
+ Specification control 
+ Providing technical support to the sales manager, which may include customer visits
+ Managing and control of drawings and technical documentation
+ Liaising with QA, purchasing and production
+ Management and control of design office processes and procedures
+ Providing technical assistance to production
+ Creating BOM’s and entering data into Sage
+ Member of the Management Team 
+ Engineering project control

Design Engineering Manager Requirements:

+ Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification) in electro-mechanical engineering 
+ Proven electro-mechanical design experience (preferably in the aerospace/defence sector) 
+ Experience with 3D CAD systems – a knowledge of AutoDesk AutoCAD Inventor would be useful
+ Proficient with MS Office
+ Strong communication skills 
+ Ability to lead and motivate a team
+ Providing technical assistance and support to production and QA
+ Creating BOM’s and entering data into Sage
+ Experience in dealing with and solving challenges 
+ Readiness to conduct overseas travel to interface with customers and in support of sales 

Salary: £45-£48,000 p.a.
