South West and South East Oxfordshire with a base at Nettlebed Hospice, Henley-on-Thames.

You’ll join the Sue Ryder South Oxfordshire community service, which delivers community and day services for people aged 18 and over who are living with conditions like cancer, heart failure and lung disease.

Your Role: 

As a Care Worker, you’ll provide high quality, person-centred care and support to individuals using Sue Ryder’s Hospice at Home services. 

Working as a key member of the Health and Social Care Team, you will: 

- Understand and implement the agreed care plan to help individuals to be cared for and remain at home safely, effectively and compassionately. Offer service users choice and help to maintain their independence.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately with individuals and their families and the multidisciplinary team.
- Carry out personal care tasks with individuals while preserving their privacy and dignity.
- Undertake simple dressings as required, according to the care plan.
- Assist individuals with administration of their medication according to policy guidelines.
- Carry out any essential domestic duties as agreed in the care plan.
- Encourage/support mobility and abide by moving and handling guidelines and in individualised risk assessments.
- Assist with nutritional needs, as per the nutritional assessment.
- Be able to provide observation of temperature and urinalysis.  Collection and deliver of specimens for pathological testing.
- Monitor syringe drivers, reporting any concerns.
- Promote Sue Ryder’s values, help to build morale and encourage others to perform to high standards
- Take part in training to further increase your abilities.
- Work to ensure the standard of infection prevention and control are followed at all times.

About You: 

To join us as a Care Worker, you’ll need: 

- Experience of working in a team 
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in MS Word, the internet and email 
- An NVQ and/or QCF Level 2 qualification (or the willingness to gain this) 
- A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle 
- Strong communication skills and an empathetic approach

Shifts are flexible and you can work on a full time or part time basis. Twilight shifts are also available and there are opportunities for night shifts. Shifts will be spread over seven days. We aim to be flexible and are happy to discuss your needs and requirements at interview.
