Employment Lawyer (Senior Lawyer), BBC Legal
Job Introduction
The BBC Employment Law Team has a vacancy for an employment lawyer, reporting to the Head of Legal (Employment Law). The role would suit a specialist employment lawyer from a leading employment firm or in-house team. This is a 12 month fixed-term role to support project work. Whilst the BBC is open to considering applicants of any qualification, the role on offer would suit a lawyer with a minimum of 4 years' PQE.
The BBC's employment lawyers are responsible for providing a high quality legal advisory service for senior managers and HR professionals across the BBC and its commercial subsidiaries. The work is challenging and fast moving.
The BBC Legal Division is responsible for providing legal advice to the BBC and for developing and implementing the BBC's legal strategy. The Division is made up of the following departments: General Counsel's Office, Editorial Legal (comprising Litigation and Programme Legal Advice), Commercial Legal, Employment, Intellectual Property, Competition Law, Information Policy and Compliance, Property Legal and Business Affairs and BBC Digital (formerly Future Media) and Engineering (formerly Technology).
Our overall structure is similar to that found in private practice firms and we support on a wide range of diverse matters. Whilst this means the work can be challenging and relatively fast-paced at times, we are open to discussing agile ways of working to support our staff, where appropriate and in line with our flexible working policies.
Role Responsibility
The BBC's employment lawyers are responsible for providing a high quality legal advisory service for senior managers and HR professionals across the BBC and its commercial subsidiaries. The work is challenging and fast moving. Working within the BBC's legal division, you'll be providing advice on a variety of issues. This will include autonomously handling employment litigation cases, and advising on grievances and disciplinaries, redundancy, discrimination, and TUPE.
The Ideal Candidate
You're a solicitor specialising in employment law, with experience with a leading law firm and/or specialist employment team. You'll have excellent academics and a good track record in and knowledge of employment law. You'll be experienced in advising and/or working on a range of varied, challenging and high quality employment legal matters (including experience in handling employment tribunal cases). You'll be team player with excellent analytical, document management, organisational and communication skills, and the enthusiasm, resilience and flexibility for the challenges of this role. You're confident working with clients at all levels of an organisation.
