Researcher - See Hear

Job Introduction
See Hear is BBC Twos magazine programme for deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the UK. Its one of the longest running TV programmes for Deaf people in the world. We cover a wide range of topics relating to the Deaf community and Deaf culture - challenging the authorities, profiling high achieving Deaf people and looking back at Deaf history. The programme is presented in British Sign Language with subtitles and audio interpretation to ensure it can be accessed by everyone.

Were now seeking a talented researcher to join us on See Hear to undertake research for the programme and to come up with lots of ideas for features. Our ideal candidate will be someone with a good knowledge of the Deaf community.

See Hear is part of the BBC Studios Unscripted Productions team in Bristol. The unit is responsible for some of the biggest shows on TV including Countryfile, Antiques Roadshow and DIY SOS.

Role Responsibility
To support the production team with all aspects of production (e.g. managing logistics, contributing to scripts and schedules, supporting edits, etc.)

To be involved in researching and setting up filming, including the identification of suitable programme contributors, locations, storylines and archive, working closely at all times to the editorial brief of the Director.

To work as part of a strong and effective team, and using your judgement to refer upwards when appropriate.

To work effectively to ensure all content is thoroughly researched and meets the BBCs editorial standards.

To carry out all duties in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.

The Ideal Candidate
A good knowledge of Deaf culture and the Deaf community is highly desirable for this role. Proficiency in British Sign Language is not essential but would be an advantage.

You will have a strong background in television production.

You will have experience in locating relevant sources of information regarding contributors, locations, archive footage and photographs, and the ability to critically assess the quality and accuracy of information.

You will have the ability to produce accurate research information and detailed briefing notes, and to distil information into usable treatments.

You will have the confidence to identify new angles to stories, recognise potential items and to originate and developideas.

You will havea current knowledge of thesubject area and the target audience.
