Organisation – Public Health Wales – Appointment of two Independent Members
Remuneration – The Independent Member roles will be paid at £9,360 per annum plus reasonable expenses – Time commitment – 4 days per month, but often higher due to organisational demands.
Background - Public Health Wales is the national public health agency in Wales and exists to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities for people in Wales. They are part of the NHS and report to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services in the Welsh Government.
With 1,700 staff and a budget of £106 million, the organisation employs the majority of the specialist public health resource in Wales.
They provide advice, expertise and specialist services to Welsh Government (working across departments), the seven health boards, two NHS Trusts, 22 local authorities, other agencies and to the population of Wales.
They also provide the public health knowledge, scientific expertise and intelligence to lead transformational change and to drive a focus on ensuring that they deliver tangible improvements in health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce health inequalities in Wales.
Public Health Wales, health boards and local authorities work closely together to promote public health in their areas and jointly identify and set the local strategic agenda in partnership with communities, housing, education, police, fire and rescue and the voluntary sector.

Cefndir - Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru yw'r asiantaeth genedlaethol ar gyfer iechyd y cyhoedd yng Nghymru ac mae'n bodoli i ddiogelu iechyd a llesiant a lleihau anghydraddoldebau iechyd i bobl yng Nghymru. Mae'n rhan o'r GIG ac yn adrodd i Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Iechyd a Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol yn Llywodraeth Cymru.
