Technical Buyer

This Technical Buyer role involves working closely with our engineers to source machined components and other related parts to the required Quality and Delivery as dictated by the respective programme or project , whilst also ensuring that the cost remains in line with the approved budget.

Component stock levels should be sufficient to support various key build events and if an ongoing multi-year supply contract exists, we should not exceed the predicted stock levels defined.

The Technical Buyer role requires someone who thrives on taking an active role in achieving both company and departmental objectives, whilst adding significant commercial value by making astute sourcing decisions, excellent stock/cash management and implementing cost reduction year on year. This is a challenging, yet rewarding opportunity.

Technical Buyer Key Responsibilities:

* Place purchase orders for drawn & non drawn components in line with requirements generated via the Prodrive MRP system and manual requirements
* Negotiate all terms and conditions, in line business operating procedures, ensuring the best total acquisition costs
* Continually monitor suppliers to ensure cost, quality and delivery adherence.
* Provide information and support as required to the Purchasing Manager, departmental managers and other internal customers
* Ensure all relevant ISO9001 procedures are adhered to
* Maintain best working practices at all times in line with Prodrive BOP's and Health & Safety policy guidelines
* The ability to present commercial information which enables sourcing decisions to be made, whilst identifying potential risks
* Play an active role in achieving departmental objectives, such as cost reduction hitting targets year on year, supplier reduction and improved stock management

Ideal Technical Buyer Candidate:

* Extensive experience within a batch prototype or production environment
* Experience of sourcing interior/exterior trim components for the automotive industry - preferred
* A good working knowledge of prototype & small batch manufacturing procedures
* The ability to evaluate and analyse the estimated cost of specific parts
* Good understanding of the type of process required to manufacture specific components
* Strong commercial skill set with the ability to understand and draft supply contracts
* Understanding of IFS business system - an advantage
* Able to understand basic engineering processes and read engineering drawings
* CIPS qualified (or currently studying)

This role will suit someone who possesses a can do/pro-active approach, with a positive attitude and the ability to identify solutions to problems within a high pressure environment.
