EDP is a high performing social enterprise, providing substance misuse services within the Dorset Community, community initiatives and development programmes in Devon and (in partnership with CareUK) substance misuse services in the prisons across Devon and Dorset. In Dorset our community service (Reach) is delivered in partnership with Avon & Wiltshire Partnership Trust (AWP) providing the clinical element and Essential Drug & Alcohol Services (EDAS) who lead the Young People's offer. Our mission is: To open doors for people affected by substance misuse so they can improve their lives and those of their families and communities.
The type of service that our EDP teams carry out is highly valued by service users and our community and prison stakeholders. As part of our team, you can make a difference to people's health and wellbeing, perspectives on their long term potential, and ultimately their lives. EDP can offer you a real opportunity for new, challenging and highly rewarding experiences. For all roles, in return for your commitment and enthusiasm, we offer a comprehensive training & development programme, a generous leave package, child care vouchers, pension scheme, and a positive, friendly working environment.
We currently have the following vacancies within our REACH Community Service in Dorset:
Recovery Navigator
Reference Number 18.18
Base: West Dorset - Dorchester
Hours: Part time, 17.5 hrs
Salary: GBP18,500 to GBP23,000 per annum, pro rata depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, Recovery Navigators deliver an integrated service through the provision of comprehensive and ongoing assessment, recovery planning, appropriate referral/linkage and psychosocial interventions. This includes liaising effectively with partnership agencies in order to ensure continuity of care, key working and access to appropriate services. The Reach integrated service opened its doors on November 1st, 2017 and so you will be joining us at a very exciting time. Integration means that our service welcomes people at any stage in their recovery journey, starting with the open end of harm reduction, being our needle and syringe programmes, using opportunistic advice and information skills, through to brief interventions, extended interventions and structured treatment.
Our team of nurse (non-medical prescribers) ensure we have a high quality community detoxification offer as well as opioid substitution therapy. As service users progress they will move into the 'aftercare' and then post treatment element of recovery. Reach delivers a diverse range of programmes which include Smart UK groups, our Moving Forward programme, accredited and non-accredited mentor training programmes alongside in reach and assertive linkage to 12 step recovery mutual aid groups.
Day to day duties will involve you delivering a range of interventions, including: key-working, strengths based assessment, recovery planning, structured group and 1:1 work. A significant proportion of your case load will be managed in partnership with a prescribing nurse who you will collaborate with closely in order to provide the safest person centred treatment experience.
As a Recovery Navigator, you will be responsible for working with and motivating Reach Service Users to engage in the recovery programmes we offer in Dorset as well as become involved in the communities they live in so that they connect with others and feel purposeful in everyday living. This may sound like a tall order but we believe in the Reach model and in the team in Dorset that have been driving our vision forward. The Reach philosophy is embedded with the asset based community development approach, which is a way of working with others that has great resonance with EDP Values. Reach adults service works with ages 18 and over. Our Young Persons service is provided by EDAS (Reach YP) and is for 16-24 year olds.
Ideally, you will already have previous experience of working in a similar field, either in the community or a similar environment, including undertaking assessments and delivering a range of evidence based substance misuse psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group-work settings. You will have a good understanding of group working, group dynamics, and be able to demonstrate competent group work facilitation skills. You will be comfortable dealing with the emotional content of sessions and constructively challenging the behaviours you see. Some knowledge and understanding of mental health issues would be helpful.
In addition, you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and time management skills and be confident in managing your own priorities in order to carry a diverse workload with competing demands. You will have at least five GCSE's (or equivalent) and either hold or be willing to undertake a Vocational Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care. A further qualification in a relevant area such as Nursing, Health and Social Care, Community Development, Psychology related, whilst not essential, would be an advantage.
Just as importantly, you will have a genuine interest in the understanding of substance misuse problems and a positive recovery focused attitude. You will be keen to develop professionally through our training programme and will demonstrate a high level of integrity and enthusiasm for working within the un-structured direct access 'front door' of our service as well as the structured group programmes that we run on a continuous cycle.
