About the Role

We are looking for a number of Baggage Assistants to join existing teams across various terminals at Heathrow Airport, London.

These are permanent positions where you will be ensuring the smooth running of the baggage system by providing a quick response to baggage jams, misrouted baggage and system faults.

You will be required to work shifts totalling 42 hours over a 7 day week.

Salary starting from GBP24,000 per annum with overtime available.

Duties & Responsibilities

• To manually intervene when bags cannot be processed by the system
• Manually handle baggage on a daily basis including:
  • Safely offloading baggage from various types of conveyor and baggage system
  • Input secured baggage into the Baggage Handling System
  • Manually re-route bags as necessary
• Provide a driving service as required
• Process standard and non-standard baggage as appropriate
• Scan bags that the Baggage Handling System cannot recognise using the manual coding hand scanner
• Match bags to flights on the computer
• Carry out regular cleaning activities in areas of work
• Assist with maintenance work programmes as required

Skills & Experience required

Essential:

• Basic to Intermediate IT/Keyboard skills
• 5 GCSE's or equivalent
• Current UK Driving
• Full Airside pass or the ability to obtain one
• Working in a fast-paced industrial environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively at varying levels, face to face; in writing and via telephone/radio

Desirable:

• Experience of working within an airport
• A current Airside Driving Licence
• Good knowledge of inbound and outbound flights
