About the Foreign & Commonwealth Office
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) promotes the United Kingdom's interests overseas, supporting our citizens and businesses around the globe. The FCO has a worldwide network of embassies and consulates, employing over 12,600 people in FCO in London and our network of over 270 diplomatic Missions in 168 countries and Overseas Territories. We work with international organisations to promote UK interests and global security, including the EU, NATO, the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the Commonwealth.
The role of Administrative Officer
The UK's relationship with the rest of the world has rarely been so complex - or interesting. The FCO has teams working on everything from the crisis in Syria to creating new opportunities for British business; to managing our global network of missions overseas, and much more besides. Accordingly, we need people like you to provide vital professional office administration and operational support in a number of areas. These include policy work, projects, budgets, casework, and internal and external communications - everything it takes, in fact, to enable us to deliver our objectives. Many roles come with a front-line customer focus too, such as Consular Officers, while others might see you act as an Executive Assistant. In short, whichever area you join us in, there will be plenty of challenges ahead.
About you
You will need to be a British Citizen and have been a resident in the UK for two out of the last ten years prior to your application. You will also need 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grades A-C, including Maths and English. Experience of providing business administrative support in an office environment is important too, as is a real commitment to public service. Positive and energetic, with a ‘can-do’ approach and great decision-making skills, you are a great team player with a drive to deliver results, even under challenging circumstances. What is more, you get on well with different people in different situations, believe in providing a quality service and are keen and willing to learn.
