Joining us on a full time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £41,703 - £46,936 per annum depending upon qualifications and experience; the level of appointment and associated salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Founded in 1946, NFER is a highly respected and successful charity committed to the continuing improvement of education and training for all learners. Joining the Research & Product Operations (RPO) department you’ll be part of the team responsible for the operational delivery of a wide and diverse portfolio of projects, including large scale test trials, international studies, randomised control trials, marking projects, event based projects, as well as a suite of products for schools and others.

About the role of Senior Project Manager:

As the Senior Project Manager you’ll take on a senior role in the department, managing a range of complex projects at one time. With a strong track record in successful project management you’ll enjoy turning complex activities into practical reality.

Key activities and projects of our Senior Project Manager include:

- Devising solutions to deliver new projects

- Project and product management, using formal project management approaches

- Managing assessment trials, event based projects, surveys, e-assessment projects and other operationally focussed projects

- Developing and managing strategies to engage and retain school participation

- Developing quality approaches and plans

- Team and line management

- Budget management and cost control

- Developing technical specifications and working with developers to create new systems

- Report writing, writing proposals and pitching for projects via competitive tendering

About you

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager with outstanding organisational and management skills who is creative and innovative. You’ll enjoy working in an operational and fast-paced enviorment, able to act upon complex requirements quickly and efficiently and have extensive experience of handling large-scale projects.

You’ll have:

- A degree or equivalent with a numerate / technical element

- Proven large scale, complex operational project management skills

- Knowledge of and experience in applying project management techniques in a ‘hands on’ manner

- The ability to manage and motivate teams and drive progress

- The ability to develop processes from scratch, mapping plans and turning outline projects into real deliverable steps

- Proven ability to manage and control budgets

- Excellent Excel skills and the abililty to learn and utilise and technology easily

- Excellent face to face, written and verbal communication skills

- A creative approach and the ability to take on and shape new and unknown projects

- A real interest in operational and logistical projects

This role would not suit someone who only has IT project management experience.
