Project Description

Balfour Beatty is one of three Joint Venture partners to design and deliver the Box Encapsulation Plant, enabling the safe conditioning of waste material from various nuclear donor plants.

Main Duties & Accountabilities:

  • To review, and endorse as appropriate, Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans; undertaking associated compliance verification activities as appropriate.
  • Understand and implement the processes necessary for the provision of timely appropriate Quality support to other Box Encapsulation Plant Delivery Team departments.
  • Conduct Quality audits of the Box Encapsulation Plant site activities and sub-contractor operations on and off site as directed, in accordance with the Project Audit Schedule.
  • Ensure the quality standards of the Box Encapsulation Project are consistently met, raising the authorised project documentation where this is not the case.
  • Undertake the identification, review, checks and endorsement of concurrent Project Life Time Records (LTR).
  • Off site visits to vendors fabrication facilities, witnessing welder tests, carrying out welding & material inspections, review of final documentation packs.


Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5 years' experience of working within a highly regulated environment, with major project delivery
  • Minimum of 2 years nuclear industry experience and training
  • Member of the Chartered Quality Institute
  • Lead Auditor (IRCA Accredited) qualification as a minimum.
  • Understanding of SL Commissioning pathway
  • C.S.W.I.P. 3.1 Welding Inspector
  • Practical Visual Inspection of Welds
  • Conducting Welder & Weld Procedure Approvals
  • Basic Welding & Engineering
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Have previously held qualifications in MPI, DPI & Radiographic Interpretation.

Security Clearance:

  • Capable of achieving the Sellafield Baseline Personnel Security Standard as a minimum with a view to obtaining SC once in post
