About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Contractor's Responsible Engineer/Senior Engineer to join our Rail division based out of Crawley.

This role will form part of our Regional Rail business unit and will cover multi discipline rail projects throughout the South East.

What you'll be doing
Role Purpose:

  • To support the team in all technical aspects of the Regional Projects Business.
  • Act as the technical lead for track construction and Project Engineer for all disciplines (including Civils, Electrification)
  • Leading a multi-disciplinary team to the successful completion of a variety of projects; to the required specification and quality standard; whilst achieving contract programme milestones, approved margin and cash forecasts.
  • Provide technical/practical expertise in IDC/IDR meetings.
  • To develop a good relationship with the clients, ensuring that future contracting opportunities are secured to become the supplier of choice in the South East.

Role Dimensions:

  • Responsible for implementing and managing effective Project Teams for the delivery of the project; including Construction Manager, Civils, Track, Electrification, Traction, Signalling & Telecoms Site Managers, Engineers & CREs, Planners, Administration, Procurement, Commercial, Safety & Environment using in house labour, agency and subcontract staff as appropriate.
  • Promotion of the Balfour Beatty Brand, making use of internal capabilities including BB Rail Plant and BB Track Suppliers

Interfaces:

  • Internal: Regional Programme Manager, Project Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, Commercial Manager, Safety & Sustainability Project Partner, HR Project Partner, Procurement, Finance and other staff within the Rail Organisation.
  • External: Our clients (Network Rail, First Group, Atkins, HS1), internal / external suppliers, subcontractors, Statutory Authorities.


Who we're looking for
Qualities and Experience:

  • Ideally Degree/HND qualified in Civil Engineering
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in Rail Construction techniques and processes such as in Track, Civils, Signalling, Electrification & Traction.
  • Proven experience in delivering Rail Systems schemes.
  • Personal Track Safety.
  • IT skills essential - word, excel and power point, email and internet
  • Excellent communication & people skills - developing & managing the relationship with the client is a key element to this contract.
  • Represent BB in a professional manner, ensuring that own behaviour and behaviour of others is consistent and aligned to the Corporate Values.
  • Ability to work under pressure, remaining focused and professional.
  • Proven rail track engineering experience
  • Project Engineering background
  • Track / permanent way experience
  • Ideally currently / previously approved as a CRE
  • Experience interfacing with other non-track disciplines
  • History of delivering projects on time and to budget
  • Applicants will have risen through the engineering ranks and be able to demonstrate strong technical knowledge to back up their management skills
  • Commitment to health and safety as the first priority
  • Stakeholder management experience
  • Commercial / budgetary acumen
