Your Responsibilities:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a lab-based protein scientist to join the department of Protein and Cell Sciences at GSK's Medicines Research Centre in Stevenage (PCS UK). The department is engaged in the design, generation and validation of biological reagents to support drug discovery across all of GSK's therapeutic modalities.

You will be a self-motivated protein scientist with an interest in protein conjugation and modification. You will be taking responsibility for carrying out protein conjugation as well as assisting with protein purification and characterisation.

The ideal candidate for this role will already have some protein biochemistry experience with a developing interest in methods of protein characterisation. You will be confident in sample handling and be familiar with characterisation techniques including SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and analytical SEC. In addition, experience of any of the following would be desirable: in vitro labelling methods (biotinylation, fluorescent tags), protein mass spectrometry, AKTA platform workstations, HPLC, affinity chromatography, ultrafiltration, UV-Vis spectroscopy.

The appointee will be capable of good experimental record-keeping and will have excellent written and oral communication skills. He/she will be expected to attend project meetings and contribute to project teams in a collaborative manner. An ability to work towards agreed timelines and effectively organise their work will be considered a key asset of the successful applicant.

Why You?Basic qualifications:
• A background in a biological or biochemical sciences discipline
• Experience with standard protein characterisation/analytical methods such as SDSPAGE, Western blotting and aSEC.
• Familiarity with protein labelling using commercial reagents and kits
• Familiarity with protein purification platforms such as AKTA workstations
• Experience with protein concentration and buffer exchange techniques
• Familiarity with UV spectroscopy methods
• Knowledge of chromatography and protein separation techniques
• Experience with data-set handling software such as Excel
• Good record keeping skills
• Track record of flexibility and team work.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:
• Experience of using In Vitro Labelling methods.
