The Purpose of the Job
The Development Manager develops and delivers the Fundraising Strategy of Blast Theory which includes Individual fundraising, Trusts and Foundations fundraising, Donor events, Corporate fundraising and Marketing/Communications related to fundraising.
The Development Manager's job exists to support the artists as they create interactive art works of the highest standard to engage the public nationally and internationally.
2. The Principal Tasks
The Development Manager will:
Individual fundraising
2.1. Develop the Individual Giving strategy and meet targets for Individual Giving set by the Business Director.
2.2 Develop the Our Friends Electric giving scheme and work with the Communications Coordinator to promote the scheme to low-level donors.
2.2. Assess and update the website to support and maximise Individual Giving.
2.3. Maintain a suitable database / donation management system, working with freelance staff where appropriate.
2.4. Analyse the effectiveness of e-communications and social media for fundraising purposes and implement improvements as necessary with the Communications Coordinator and Company Manager.
2.5. Devise a Major Donor Strategy as part of the Individual Giving Strategy with the Business Director and Artists and oversee its implementation, including carrying out research into donor prospects.
2.6 Shape and deliver a donor stewardship strategy to ensure donors remain engaged and inspired.
2.7. Shape Individual Giving campaign drives for specific activity or projects.
2.8 Ensure Blast Theory's Individual Giving activity is fully compliant with data protection legislation including GDPR.
Trusts and Foundations fundraising
2.9. Assess elements of core and project activity to identify fundraising opportunities with the Artists and the Business Director.
2.10. Devise and implement Trust and Foundations engagement strategy with the Business Director and Artists and oversee its implementation, including ensuring that funders and prospects are invited to cultivation events.
2.11. Identify priority projects for funding and match them with prospective Trusts and Foundations.
2.12 Proactively identify suitable funding opportunities and work with the Business Director and Artists to shape funding proposals in response.
2.13. Progress and submit applications in a timely manner.
2.14. Maintain and update the database of Trusts and Foundations.
Corporate fundraising
2.15. Assess elements of core and project activity to identify corporate support opportunities with the Artists and the Business Director
2.16. Devise and implement Corporate engagement strategy with the Business Director and Artists and oversee its implementation, including ensuring that prospects are invited to cultivation events.
2.17. Create and maintain a list of business and networking events to attend where appropriate.
2.18. Develop Case For Support as appropriate for potential opportunities.
Donor events
2.19. Devise Donor Events to bring together Influencers, existing Donors and potential Donors with the support of the Artists and the Business Director.
2.20. Arrange logistical set-up and delivery of all events including hospitality, venue, materials etc.
2.21. Review and strategise each Donor event with Blast Theory team.
Communications
2.22. Work with PR Consultant and Communications Coordinator to ensure fundraising and communications are well linked and opportunities for donor cultivation are maxmised at all times.
2.23. Draft all copy for donor communications and liaise with internal staff as required.
2.24. Identify opportunities to create exclusive content for donors, as well as case studies, testimonials, etc.
Governance
2.25. Work with the Business Director to build dialogue with our strong and active Board of Trustees to fully integrate them into our fundraising work and unlock new sources of income.
2.26. Coordinate all Catalyst Champion Trustee meetings.
2.27. Write quarterly fundraising update reports for Board Meetings
General
2.28 Represent and advocate for Blast Theory externally.
2.29. Attend events - including evenings and weekends - as required.
2.30. Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested.
3. Line management
There may be occasions when the Development Manager is asked, by the Business Director, to manage temporary or freelance staff working at 20 Wellington Road or elsewhere on behalf of the company.
Further Details
Normal office hours are 10am-6pm, Monday - Friday. Can be flexible on working days.
Flexible Working
Any additional hours will be paid at the same rate.

Person Specification
Candidate should have:
- Track record in and understanding of fundraising and donor development;
- Demonstrable funding successes and an entrepreneurial approach to identifying sustainable income streams;
- Demonstrable experience of relationship management and of developing and maintaining a network of contacts;
- Proven experience of public sector and/or trust funding, including applications, reporting and stewardship;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with the ability to write a compelling case for support and to communicate this effectively through face-to-face presentations and written proposals;
- Experience of working with communications departments to develop strategies for successful fundraising campaigns and donor cultivation;
- Ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues; to inspire the team and to work effectively to achieve shared goals;
- Strong organisational skills and an ability to prioritise workload and meet strict overlapping deadlines;
- Understanding of compliance and legal requirements in relation to publicly funded bodies and public funding landscape;
- Flexible approach to working and ability to work and respond effectively under pressure;
- Clear understanding of the arts and cultural sector;
- Interest in and commitment to working with Blast Theory and their artistic vision.
Desired skills:
- Experience of managing budgets and financial reporting;
- Understanding of working in an artist-led organisation;
- Successful track record in developing individual giving schemes;
- Experience with fundraising from the commercial/corporate sector;
- Experience with CRM systems and Mailchimp;
- Experience with/understanding of Arts Council England's Catalyst: Evolve programme.
