Our client is looking for Global Sales Engineers to strengthen the Sales Engineering department within New Sales, based in Derbyshire.

Reporting to both the local Team Leader and to Key Account Managers, you will be the primary technical point of contact for customers during the Sales process. Working directly with the customers' engineers in parallel with the commercial sales team, you will translate customer specifications into a viable technical proposal and project budget for submission to our clients global customer base. You will be responsible for the technical aspects of quotes, managed from their inception up to receipt of order and will be responsible as part of a team to deliver well-defined, profitable solutions with known and managed risks.

The main duties of the role include:

  • Clause-by-clause review and comment of customer technical specifications
  • Preparation of 3D models and proposal drawings using Autodesk Inventor software
  • Preparation of a detailed Technical Description and supporting documentation describing the main system functions and performance
  • Preparation of a preliminary project budget and timeline in co-ordination with Project Management and Procurement
  • Preparation of a Technical Risk Assessment for the product and project
  • Presentation of the technical concept at internal reviews
  • Review, discussion and negotiation of the technical concept externally with customers
  • Support other colleagues and internal departments to provide relevant technical information and expertise as required

The role is a varied role, fast-paced and challenging role, ideal for candidates with a background in project engineering or product design looking to take on additional challenges and responsibilities.

The ideal candidate for the position will have:

  • Ideally, university education to Bachelors level in a relevant discipline or with equivalent work experience in a Mechanical Engineering environment
  • 3-5 years work experience in a manufacturing industry. Knowledge and experience working in the rail industry is preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in creating and analysing technical concepts
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD, preferably Autodesk Inventor/Vault
  • Knowledge in creating drawings and technical product description
  • Ability to understand customer needs and good analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to details; ability to review and assimilate data and present information
  • Service and result oriented
  • Self-motivated and communicative with a good technical understanding
  • Well organized, highly motivated for the job and with an open attitude
  • Fluent in spoken and written English

The role is primarily based in Derbyshire with short-term international travels (1 week travel per month on average depending on workload).
