The BAYS+ @InfoNation Service aims to support and assist vulnerable young people aged between 16 and 25 and comprises of a variety of both statutory and voluntary services.
The Accommodation Team Assessment Officer is part of a larger team that focus on prevention of homelessness by providing advice and assistance to young people aged 16 to 18. This role is the first contact for young people who are experiencing accommodation issues and through assessment is responsible for formulating the next steps which could be a referral on for statutory involvement in response to safeguarding issues to using the in house homes support and mediation service. This position is the lead role within the prevention element of the BAYS+ Accommodation Team.
Your Specific Responsibilities will be:
- To assess the needs of vulnerable young people who present as or are at risk of becoming homeless.
- To work with parents, carers and extended family members so that where it is safe and appropriate the young person may remain living at home; this will include facilitating family meetings and mediation sessions.
- In the event that a Young Person needs to access emergency accommodation, ensure that this move is supported and to advocate on their behalf to ensure that their rights and entitlements are fully met.
- Supervision of staff, students or volunteers may be expected
- Case recording, report writing (to include reports for external agencies, e.g. courts, and complex management reports) and producing and keeping management information.
The successful post holder will have:
- Experience in working with disadvantaged and challenging young people in a relevant setting.
- Experience of assessing and producing plans to address complex situations and needs.
- Experience of managing a caseload and prioritising competing demands.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting vulnerable young people.
- Knowledge of the benefits system and housing options as it affects young people.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014 and the Housing Act (Wales) 2014.
