Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) is an acute teaching hospital working across two main sites: the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The Brighton campus includes the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and the Sussex Eye Hospital and is also the Major Trauma Centre for the region. The Trust has expenditure of over GBP600m per annum, provides services to over a million people and employs over 8,000 staff. Further, the Royal Sussex County Hospital is currently undergoing a GBP485 million programme (3Ts) to replace all the buildings on the front of the main hospital site. The Trust has faced considerable challenges over the previous three years with quality, operational and financial performance but they are now looking to the future with renewed confidence. On 1st April 2017, BSUH and Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHT) entered into a three year arrangement when the WSHT leadership team was appointed to lead the Trust. The agreement identified a number of key priorities which included delivering the improvements necessary to enable BSUH to exit Financial Special Measures and effective oversight of the 3Ts Programme. This role will be critical to ensure the objectives are achieved.
