Development Manager
Contract Type: Permanent, full-time
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Salary: £31,173 per annum
Location: Cambridge

The Role

This small, but increasingly busy office, is responsible for keeping in touch with over 7,000 alumni of the College scattered all over the world.  In 2017/18, the office ran the third most successful fundraising operation in Cambridge.

During 2018/20 the Alumni, Friends and Development Office will be responsible for running and delivering a campaign to raise £12.6m for an appeal to build our new Library and Auditorium.  Our new Development Manager will play a major part in this appeal, and will also manage and develop a portfolio of major gift prospects, will be responsible for overseeing regular giving activities (including the annual telephone and direct mail campaigns) and, with support from the Development Officer, will build on the success of our existing legacy programme.  The Development Manager's role is primarily fundraising, but as part of the wider team, all members are mutually supportive and expected to participate in achieving departmental goals.

Selwyn is widely recognised as being a very friendly college that enjoys a warm and supportive relationship with its alumni and friends, and for who the office is the first point of contact.  A hallmark of our activities is an attention to detail, where the individual comes first.

The Ideal Candidate

Educated to degree standard and with a background in fundraising, alumni or member relations, the successful candidate will be familiar with, and have experience of, regular giving, stewardship and legacy programmes.  To be successful in this role, you will have excellent communication skills, a good command of English (both written and verbal) strong interpersonal skills and a combination of personal sensitivity, creativity, tact and discretion.  You'll also have strong organisational skills, a meticulous attention to detail, a flexible, positive and pro-active approach to work and experience of best practice in using social media.

Looking after you and your career

This post offers an excellent opportunity to gain or develop experience in many aspects of higher education fundraising and communications, as well as developing face-to-face fundraising skills.  The opportunity to work on a capital appeal additionally provides the chance to gain valuable experience, and to work with a wide cross section of donors and supporters at different levels.

We offer salary progression through performance-based increments.  Our attractive benefits package also includes 33 days paid holiday per annum (including an allowance for bank holidays), on-site parking, a free lunch in College when on duty, a contributory final salary pension scheme or NEST, subsidised contributory private health insurance, free healthcare cash plan, contractual sick pay, a range of family friendly benefits above statutory requirements and free use of the College gym.

If you have energy, flair, creativity and a belief in the power of philanthropy to make a difference to the College and the wider world, we invite you to apply.

Closing Date: The closing date for receipt of applications is Sunday 3 June 2018
Interviews: Interviews will be held in College on Thursday 14 June 2018
