Are you an enthusiastic and dynamic Technical Manager looking for a new role in a growing and cutting-edge environment?
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bristol is looking for an inspiring leader to take on a varied, demanding and extremely rewarding role to develop the engineers of the future.
Using your background in computer science, electrical & electronic engineering or engineering or applied mathematics or similar disciplines, you will manage, lead and recruit technical staff to support research laboratories and activities in the Faculty of Engineering’s Merchant Venturers’ building. You will help define and then drive the expansion of laboratory support.
The School of Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Engineering Mathematics (SCEEM) is predominantly located in Merchant Venturers’ Building; the building has a varied range of technical laboratories to support the academic disciplines.
It is essential you can manage a highly skilled team, some qualified to post-doctoral level, and organise work and activities to enable project deadlines. A large part of the role will be interfacing with academics and university support services and helping them to formulate and affect practicable solutions to complex problems using your staff and facilities.
You will be a good communicator who can multitask and develop relationships quickly, make decisions and take actions across specialisms outside of your own. You should have a strong commitment to equality and diversity, and activity promote a diverse environment exclusively through merit and excellence. Ideally you will have a background of managing specialist laboratories and associated staff. Experience of successfully managing and planning in a research and development environment (including budgets, scheduling and requirements capture), and / or of managing experimental officers or technical specialists would be an advantage. The post is being offered on a full time, open-ended contract.
