The Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering requires a highly skilled, adaptable and self-motivated Woodwork and Timber Engineering Senior Workshop Technician to provide technical support in its laboratories and workshops.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day supervision of the department’s woodworking workshop. In addition, he/she will provide support for the Department’s CAD/CAM facilities and to other technical staff in the Department in the fields of concrete, innovative building materials, soils engineering, fibre reinforced plastics and the fabrication of test rigs and testing of specimens. The team also contribute to the teaching of undergraduates and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the use of equipment during individual research projects.
Applicants should have considerable experience of woodworking, carpentry, timber engineering and CAD/CAM, and be familiar with a range of different building materials. Previous experience of having worked in a civil engineering, university and/or similar environment would be advantageous. Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate practical ability.
The post is full time (36.5 hours per week) and is being offered on an open ended contract with a commencing salary of £25,728 per annum rising to £31,604 per annum through annual increments.
