Senior Retail Surveyor - Fixed Term contract up to 12 months 
Home based in NW/NE England or Scotland, covering work in these regions 
£45,063.15 per annum (salary subject to experience), plus excellent benefits including a car allowance and a home workers allowance. 

In the UK there are over seven million cats. Cats Protection is the organisation dedicated to helping, rescuing, re-homing and supporting cats. With 34 adoption centres and 250 volunteer-run branches, we help around 190,000 cats and kittens each year. 

We are looking for an experienced retail surveyor to cover a period of maternity leave, providing specialist retail surveying and professional services to a variety of Cats Protection stakeholders. 

The main responsibilities in this role are: 

- To provide the necessary retail property management skills and experience and retail acquisitions expertise to enable the Charity to achieve its aims in expanding its operational retail portfolio in line with the Retail Strategy. 

- To work closely with the Cats Protection Retail team and retained retail acquisition agents in order to carry out research into potential new shops and to achieve the subsequent acquisition of those deemed suitable. 

- To manage the work of the Retail Surveyor, to ensure that s/he is fully employed in the provision of high-quality retail property advice and professional services across the Charity. 

- To support the Head of Property in the provision of strategic and specific retail property advice to the Executive Management Team and Board of Trustees. 

- To select, appoint and manage external surveyors in the carrying out of pre-acquisition surveys of retail premises which have been identified by the Cats Protection Retail team as being suitable for use as charity shops. 

- To carry out regular inspections of existing Cats Protection retail properties to ensure that, from a property perspective, they project the best image possible of the Charity. 

- To work closely with the Senior Management Surveyor and Property (Building) Surveyors, to ensure that maintenance programmes and/or refurbishment specifications are prepared and executed as a result of identified wants of repair and in order to reduce eventual dilapidations liabilities. 

- To instruct and manage specialist external surveyors as required for matters such as rent reviews, lease renewals, etc. 

- To act for and/or advise our Branches and the Retail Team in any property matters which may arise through the operation of their charity shops. 

- To provide professional surveying and estate management services to the rest of our property portfolio as required 

- To steer Cats Protection towards sustainability in all its property operations and projects. 

- To work closely with the CP Health & Safety Manager, particularly when designing facilities for ease of safe operation and taking account of ergonomic and other particular requirements of staff and visitors. 

- To assist the Head of Property with the compilation of property budgets and to ensure careful cost control in liaison with the Finance team. 

- To attend in person, or via conference call, regular team meetings to provide timely information to the Head of Property 

We are looking for the following essential criteria (additional criteria may be found in the Person Specification as part of the application process): 

- GCSE Mathematics and English at grade C or above (or equivalent) 
- Professional surveying qualification (e.g. MRICS/FRICS) 
- Driving licence (full UK) 
- Microsoft Office skills - Word, Excel, Project and Outlook 
- Minimum of five years’ PQE in a retail environment, either as a surveyor for a multiple retailer or within a retail department of a surveying practice or within a management department of a surveying practice with client retail portfolios under management. 
- Staff management experience, including both professional and support staff. 
- Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work on your own initiative, accurately and under pressure. 
- Ability to work within a small team and externally with other professionals and third parties 
- Organisational skills, a positive attitude and a flexible and adaptable nature. 
- Someone who is proactive, resilient and keen to resolve conflict. 
- A methodical and analytical approach. 
- Able to undertake the duties including some working out of doors. 
- Able to undertake a significant amount of travel, often with overnight stays. 
- No known allergies to cats, and empathy towards cats.
