Contract type: 3 years fixed term contract

We now have a fantastic opportunity for an Employment and Skills Delivery Lead, focusing on HS2, to join our new Productivity and Skills Directorate and are looking for a forward-thinking, proactive individual to oversee the employment and skills aspect of the HS2 growth strategy. The role will primarily focus on ensuring that HS2 opportunities are accessible to local residents.

About us
The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration. Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - the Commonwealth Games will be here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.

Against a backdrop of a uniquely challenging and evolving environment, we are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that aims to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands. All our roles will have an impact on the whole of our region.

WMCA is committed to delivering the right skills and employment opportunities to our residents. We want more of our communities to participate in and benefit from the region's economic growth and giving people the right skills to succeed is crucial to this agenda.

About the role
Working with HS2 and other partners, you will lead on the development and delivery of an employment and skills framework to address HS2 and related skills needs. You will work in collaboration with our partners and key stakeholders to maximise job and training opportunities for West Midlands' residents, identifying how funding streams can be deployed to build a pipeline of skills recruits for HS2 and related job vacancies.

To succeed in the role …
You will have strong experience of working within the skills training environment and of managing large scale employment and skills programmes. You will be a confident and articulate communicator, able to liaise with people from all walks of life and passionate about driving the skills and employment agenda forward.

Above all, you will have a proven track record of working at a strategic level in employment and skills, with an extensive understanding of the issues relating to HS2 and their impact on the West Midlands.

This key role will give you the opportunity to leverage your breadth of experience in the skills and employment field and take your career to the next level.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.
