PURPOSE
The successful candidate will work with the existing Agency team to service the requirements of a wide range of ship and cargo handling clients visiting the port.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Visiting ships whilst in port, competently attending to all Master's / Crew's requirements. This will often involve the requirement to work outside of normal office hours including evenings and weekend as directed by the Agency Manager

Be responsible for the accurate preparation, completion and despatch of routine HMRC and ship's cargo documentation. This will include the accurate preparation and sending of timesheets and Statements of Fact.

Coordinate local port services and husbandry requirements on behalf of Ships' Master, Owners and Crew, also handling the funding of husbandry requirements as required.

Support the effective training of Trainee Ships Agents as required to ensure local port services are coordinated and husbandry requirements are handled proficiently.

Plan and coordinate ships' husbandry requirements.

Prepare and complete ships' files and input accurate information.

Order port services with guidance/instruction from the Agency Manager.

Accurately calculate pro-forma port costs and husbandry costs.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with ship and shore side personnel.

The prompt communication of problems, in particular emergency situations in accordance with established Emergency Response Procedures.

As and when requested travel to and work from other port locations to build up you own knowledge and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
An excellent standard of education to minimum GCSE standard or equivalent

Have studied or be working towards the ICS Foundation Diploma would be advantageous but not essential.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

A full, clean UK driving license is essential

EXPERIENCE
Experience of working in a shipping agency environment is strongly preferred although consideration will be given to candidates who have worked in a similar environment locally and who display the aptitude to adapt quickly to the role.

Experience of handling dry cargoes would be advantageous.

Experience of working out of normal office hours and of working under pressure to sometimes demanding timescales.
