LOCATION: Portsmouth
JOB TITLE: Science Technician
SALARY & BENEFITS: GBP14,989 - GBP15,428 per annum
WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week (term time only) 8am - 4pm Monday - Thursday and 8am-3.30pm on Fridays
THE COMPANY: We are currently working with a mixed 'all-through' school for pupils aged between 4 - 16 years. The school is the largest state school in Portsmouth. They are now seeking a Science Technician to join the Science team.
THE ROLE: As the Science Technician you will be working mainly but not exclusively in the Science Department providing technical support to enable pupils' access to learning by providing technical advice and support. You will be preparing, maintaining and organising equipment and materials for classes.
Key Responsibilities for the Science Technician role to include:-
• To supply technical equipment and resources as directed to support teaching and learning
• Preparation, assembly, setting up of equipment /components, apparatus, tools and equipment for practical classes and assessments
• Collecting, caring for and storing equipment, resources and materials safely
• Under instruction dispose and store equipment, apparatus and materials, including chemical waste
• Monitor supplies and condition of safety and protective wear
• Demonstrate the correct and safe use of equipment for pupils as directed by the class teacher
• Assist with the administration and invigilation of routine tests and coursework tasks
• Provide clerical and administrative support
THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate will need to have a positive attitude and has excellent presentation skills. You will need to prioritise, plan and organise your workload along with anticipating problems and developing creative solutions. It is desirable that you hold a Degree in Science or related area.
Key experience essential for the role of the Science Technician:-
• GCSE x 5 grades A8-C including English and Maths or equivalent
• Science related Level 3 Qualifications
• Experience working with young people
• Minimum of 1 years' experience working within a similar role
• Willing to complete a DBS check at job offer stage
• Live within a commutable distance to Portsmouth
