Job Purpose:
The Morrison Utility Services Apprenticeship Programme, endorsed by Energy & Utility Skills and Accredited by the city & guilds, provides the opportunity for individuals to become fully trained, qualified and competent "craft" persons in an electrical transmission/distribution industry in the following trade electrical fitting.

Principal Accountabilities:
Apprentices are expected to learn all aspects of their chosen craft and apply the knowledge, skills and techniques gained through the Apprenticeship Programme competently, safely and in accordance with National standards.
Apprentices are expected to complete the Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering and a QCF Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering whilst on the Apprenticeship Programme.
Fitters - Construction fitter duties, such as electrical fitting activities on High Voltage switch gear, transformers and associated equipment.
- Installation of Control and protection equipment.
- Installation of Earthing Systems
- Installation of disconnectors and open Bus Bar
- Maintenance of High Voltage equipment
- Fault Finding on Low and High Voltage equipment
- Receiving High Voltage documents
- Working as part of a team and where necessary under own initiative

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Suitable applicants will be new to the power transmission and distribution industry and have recently achieved GCSE's Grades A to C in English, Maths and Science/Technology or equivalent. Applicants will need to demonstrate an interest in electronics, electricity or engineering and enthusiasm to work outdoors.
Candidates will need to show the ability to work in a team.
Applicants must possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated through the use of hand tools and will be expected to undertake a practical assessment.
No previous work experience required.

Nature and Scope:
The Apprentice programme is 3 years in duration (indicative timescale) in Electrical Power Engineering whilst gaining skills, knowledge, understanding and experience in their craft. The aim is to develop into a qualified, competent crafts person high voltage electrical fitter.

During subsequent stages of the Apprentice programme you will gain more skills, knowledge and experience through training courses and through 'real time' working on the high voltage transmission and distribution system coupled with the acquisition of recognised qualifications. By the conclusion of the programme, you will have gained the full knowledge, skills and competence to work productively on the high voltage transmission and distribution system and deemed to be a fully qualified craft person.
The assessment of competence and application of knowledge and skills will be conducted throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship Programme.

End-point Assessment:
Successful achievement of the end-point assessment, will lead to final certification of the apprenticeship and demonstrate that the apprentice, is a fully competent craftsperson in their occupational job role; who can work safely and confidently to install, maintain and repair a range of network assets.

Competencies:
Apprentices will demonstrate full and sustained competence in all aspects of their chosen craft.
Apprentices will maintain throughout their programme, and beyond, a demonstrated commitment and adherence to health and safety standards, customer service and organisational excellence.
Apprentices will be expected to demonstrate a high degree of energy, be flexible, adaptable and responsive to change.
Apprentices will work collaboratively, effectively and efficiently with other Networks employees, suppliers, training providers and contractors.
Apprentices will demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to establish strong and productive relationships with colleagues, suppliers, training providers, contractors and the general public.
Apprentices will achieve all the qualifications and associated programme milestones.
This is an exciting opportunity to become an apprentice in Morrison Utility Services with opportunities to progress within a highly respected company. Our business is centred upon the provision, replacement, repair and maintenance of utility network infrastructure, for example: electricity substations, water and gas pipes, electricity and telecommunication cables and installation of water, electricity and gas meters on behalf of blue chip utility companies in the UK.

Applicants for this opportunity must be 18 + years of age and prepared to work throughout England & Wales and the ability to stay away from home if required. You will need to have a full driving licence and transport to get to work. Please do not apply, if you have not passed your test and don't have transport.

Trainees will spend up to 36 weeks at Utility & Construction Training Ltd (UCT) Carrington, Manchester acquiring the basic knowledge, skills and competence to enable them to work productively on the High Voltage Network before commencing work in the areas.

During the time at the training centres apprentices will partake in training at external providers sites including an Outward Bound week in the Lake District. Apprentices will have accommodation provided by Morrison Utility Services for set periods as required
