About us

1625 Independent People prevents youth homelessness in the South West and has been helping 16-25 year olds reboot their lives for over 30 years. With around 100 staff in four locations, we provided housing and support to around 1800 young people last year.

We’re one of the brightest youth organisations in the South West, leaders in our field, no other organisation in the area has the same wealth of experience.

About the job

Terms, conditions and benefits:

  • Hours per week: Full time 37.5
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Pay: £28,203- £30,480 per annum (NJC Scale 32 – 35, pay award pending), starting at the bottom of the scale
  • 30 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Free Health Scheme with UK Healthcare
  • Pension - Employer contributes 4% and employees contribute a minimum of 0.8%, (see Summary of T&Cs below).
  • There is a requirement to work flexibly as required, which will include occasional evening and weekend work.
  • You will need to travel across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and NE Somerset and North Somerset so you must have either a full driving licence and access to a vehicle or the equivalent ability to travel with reasonable adjustments.

Where and who?

You will be working in the Reboot West Team and will be line managed by 1625ip’s Senior Operations Manager. You will be based at head office, Kingsley Hall, Old Market, Bristol but with significant amount of time spent supporting the team based in the nearby towns of Weston-Super-Mare, Keynsham and Yate.

The role

We are really excited that 1625 Independent People, in partnership with Bristol City Council and three neighbouring local authorities (South Gloucestershire, Bath and NE Somerset and North Somerset), have succeeded in becoming only one of three national projects to develop a Social Impact Bond for Care Leavers.  Funded by the Department for Education (DfE), this four-year project will give around 200 care leavers the support and opportunities they need to succeed in education, training and employment.

You will manage a new team of up to seven EET Workers who will be co-located at 1625ip and in the local authority leaving care teams. Working closely with those teams, you will have a real chance to shape the service we offer together and enhance the life opportunities for young people leaving care.

You will be involved in an innovative approach to commissioning through delivering outcomes for care leavers through a Social Impact Bond.  This means the service will be paid for on the basis of delivering specific positive outcomes for young people, with a focus on sustained education, training and employment. Your role will be pivotal in delivering success.

Teams at 1625ip are very supportive of each other and through reflective practice we are always learning from our own and each other’s experiences.

Our work is rooted in providing support in a Psychologically Informed Environment framework known as PIE. We will use and further develop these approaches for care leavers supported by Reboot West.

A typical day may include:

  • Providing 1:1 supervision of EET Workers, supporting them to develop creative solutions for care leavers to meet their identified goals
  • Meeting with Local Authority colleagues to discuss any issues or improvements to the service, in particular looking at developing innovative solutions together to meet young people’s needs
  • Focusing on outcomes and ensuring contract targets are being met by checking, collating and presenting data.

About you

You will have empathy and understanding of the needs of young people, particularly those leaving care, and the barriers they face. You like being around and working with young people.

You will have knowledge about psychologically informed approaches and have a genuine curiosity about how people (including yourself) identify life values and goals and how to live consistently and openly with them.

You will be outcomes focussed and be happy working in a results based way as part of “Payment by Results” contract.

You will be able to demonstrate a flexible approach, working in partnership with other agencies and partners to solve problems and deliver results.
