This is a temporary role until 21/1/19 or the posting of a substantive post holder if sooner.

The principal responsibility of the role is to handle pre-action civil and other litigation on behalf of both Forces and to handle a caseload dealing with Operations files. In particular, to:

•Investigate and respond to pre-action public and employer liability letters of claim .
•Assist Lawyers in handling legal proceedings in Courts and Tribunals. This will include investigating the claim, collating documents, taking statements, preparation of Court papers and attending Courts and Tribunals with Lawyers and Counsel.
•Assist Lawyers in assessing evidence and advising officers and police support staff and partner agencies in relation to civil applications in the Magistrates' Courts eg Civil Injunctions, Property Closure Orders, Proceeds of Crime Act forfeiture of cash, Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Sexual Risk Orders.
•Advise officers upon evidence and issue proceedings in Magistrates' Courts in respect of claims pursuant to Police (Property) Act 1897 and applications pursuant to S2 Dogs Act 1871 and S4B Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
•Provide day to day support to the Senior Legal Advisors and Force Legal Advisors.
•With the support of Lawyers provide advice to officers and support staff on a wide range of issues.

Key requirements:

•Previous experience and knowledge of legal principles and legal systems.
•Previous experience and knowledge of litigation and contested matters generally
•Demonstrable ability to handle a large and diverse workload.
•Demonstrable ability to prioritise workload in terms of urgency and importance.
