We now have an exciting opportunity to bring three Policy Advisors into our Housing and Regeneration Directorate and are looking for forward-thinking, creative individuals to join our new Policy team. The team will be responsible for ensuring the Mayor and Combined Authority leaders continue to operate at the forefront of productive engagement with key decision makers and influencers, both in developing policy initiatives and in the practical application of these.

About us
The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is a strategic authority working with partners to deliver a stronger West Midlands, with a focus on skills, innovation, transport, economic development and regeneration. Individual Councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships will still deliver services and retain their identity but on the big decisions we will have the resources to work together.

This is an exciting time for the West Midlands - the Commonwealth Games will be here in 2022, the arrival of HS2 will help make us a world class business location and a new £350m housing deal aims to deliver 215,000 new homes by 2031.

Against a backdrop of a uniquely challenging and evolving environment, we are looking for the right people to ensure we can meet the demands of delivering an ambitious agenda that aims to build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous West Midlands. All our roles will truly have an impact on the whole of our region.

About the role
You will work collectively with the other two Policy Advisors to provide expert policy guidance, advice and insight to help shape the WMCA's thinking on housing, regeneration, economic development, investment and infrastructure. You will prepare and present papers and briefings to decision-making boards, and will work collaboratively with our partners to address those key policy areas of mutual interest in respect of housing and regeneration.

To succeed in the role …
Educated to degree level or equivalent, with an appropriate professional membership, you will have a strong background in planning policy formulation and implementation covering housing growth, regeneration, economic development, investment and infrastructure.

You will be highly analytical, a problem-solver, confident in dealing with local and national government bodies, our constituent partners and key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

Above all, you will have an in-depth understanding of the national, regional and local policy landscape, with demonstrable facilitation and influencing skills which you can leverage depending on your audience.

Based in Birmingham, this role provides an exciting opportunity for career enhancement in a forward-looking, growing and ambitious organisation. You will directly contribute to ensuring the WMCA is well-equipped to address key challenges and unlock major opportunity in the region.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.

Closing Date: Sunday, 27th May
Interviews held: TBC
