The Opportunity

We are presently seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our Manchester office.  The role has full study support to enable you to gain the AAT qualification. 

You will be given the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of accounts to complement your studies, and the role will develop over the short term from ledger focussed activities, to incorporate accounting and Management Information (MI) reporting.

Reporting to our Financial Accountant, your key responsibilities will include:

• Responsibility for high transaction sections of the purchase ledger support, including
  • Entering detailed project expenses through the purchase ledger and reconciling supplier accounts
  • Liaising with UK and overseas office managers to resolve queries and improve the information being input into the finance system
  • Checking electronic timesheet expenses for reasonableness, VAT recovery and compliance with company expenses policy
• Ownership of the Company Employee expense software
• Responsible for a section of the balance sheet, including journals and monthly reconciliations
• Main contact for the Group Support Services (GSS) teams
  • Reviewing and challenging the GSS operating costs
  • Providing analysis of spend variances to the department heads and assisting with cost initiatives
  • Leading the budgeting and forecasting process
• Assisting with the reporting requirements for the financial month end
• Assist with statutory filings for the Group (UK and overseas) including financial statements and tax returns

You will be maintaining key relationships with internal stakeholders, including the Finance team, Employees, Contractors, Project Managers and Directors, and external clients.

Who we are Looking For

• A level standard of qualification, preferably with exposure to accounting, finance, mathematics or economics subjects
• Minimum Grade C in English and Maths at GCSE (or equivalent)
• Takes full ownership of work and responsibility of completing it to a deadline
• Ability to prioritise and work under pressure producing accurate results
• High attention to detail and ability to problem solve
• Natural team player
• Professional attitude when dealing with clients and internal stakeholders
• Desirable to have work experience within a finance or accounting environment
