An exciting opportunity has been created for a HR Officer to work within a small HR team at Bloxham School.

As an HR Officer, you will be the first point of contact for HR related queries and help with all general HR administrative support.

Key Role Responsibilities and Accountabilities;

What you'll need to succeed.

  • As a school HR Officer, you will need to have excellent communication skills and always work to a high standard.
  • You will be friendly and be able to work well as part of a team. Ideally, you will need to have recent and relevant experience of school administration and be a confident user of the school's software ISAMS.
  • Be the first point of contact for HR-related queries, having strong phone, email (on the HR email address) and face to face communication skills
  • Administer HR-related documentation, such as letters and contracts of employment
  • Ensure the relevant HR database is up to date, accurate and complies with legislation
  • Assist in the recruitment process by requesting and collating references, track progress and follow-up the return of necessary paperwork including DBS checks
  • Liaise with recruitment agencies and maintain recruitment costings for reporting
  • Set up and prepare the necessary paperwork for interviews and co-ordinate the interviews, welcome the candidates and take copies of identification
  • Liaise with the IT department in setting up new users, groups etc.
  • Prepare paperwork for payroll
  • Staff file audit, scan HR documentation that comes in and save electronically and in the staff file
  • Organising and maintaining HR staff files and absence records
  • Prepare reports as and when required for HR Manager or Bursar

Qualifications/ Skills/ Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum GCSEs (A-C)/S grades (1-3) with one A level/two Highers.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a HR Officer/ HR Administrator role.
  • Strong administrative, planning and organizational skills.
  • Enjoy working with people
  • Be patient, tactful, diplomatic and approachable
  • Be able to deal with people who are stressed, upset or angry
  • Be able to stay calm in difficult situations
  • Have good spoken and written communication skills
  • Be confident about gathering facts and statistics and making financial calculations
  • Respect the importance of confidentiality
  • Have good organising skills and be able to develop plans, policies and forecasts
  • Be able to work as part of a team, have flexibility and willingness to learn
  • Be able to work accurately, with good attention to detail
  • Be able to use databases, spreadsheets, word processing and HR software packages (PASS, SAP HR)

Desirable:

  • Relevant degree, Certificate in Personnel Practice, (CPP), CIPD part or full membership or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a school.
  • Recruitment experience.
  • Payroll experience.

Hours: 20 hours per week, exact hours to be discussed with the individual candidate

Salary & Conditions:

  • Salary GBP17,000 to GBP20,000 pro-rata (depending on experience), part time, Monday to Friday, 9a.m. to 1p.m./2pm.
  • 21 days' paid holiday plus bank holidays pro-rata, increasing annually to a total of 25 days' paid holiday plus bank holidays pro-rata
  • Enrolment in the School's defined contribution pension scheme
  • School meals provided during working hours
  • Access at no charge to the School's sporting, swimming and fitness facilities
  • Start date: May/ June 2018
