Our client is a highly respected independent charity, which together with its subsidiary, our clients Futures, works across England and Wales to develop and deliver a range of innovative services, providing practical and emotional support to prisoners' children and families, to prisoners, and to people with convictions.

Position: Family Support Worker
Location: HMP Downview, Sutton, Surrey (commutable from Croydon, Mitcham and Epsom)
Job type: Part Time & Causal contracts available
Hours: up to 22.5 per month (usually Saturday, Sunday and occasional Thursday)
Salary: GBP10.20 per hour

About the Role:

As Family Support Worker at HMP Downview you will work as one of our clients Family team, you will be based primarily in the prison's visitor centre providing support, advice and guidance to families visiting prisoners, facilitating prison visits and family days and supporting the tea bar service.

Working as a member of the Family Services team, to work across all areas of the service, primarily in the visitors centre, but also across the visits hall, play area and tea bar in order to provide a safe and welcoming environment, and provide advice, support and information to friends and families visiting the prison.

About You:

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrable experience and understanding of working with families in a challenging multi-agency environment, ideally involving offenders and/or their families.

You will offer a friendly and welcoming environment within the Visitors Centre, where people visiting the prison, can spend time before and after their visit. Assist in the operation of the Centre ensuring the Centre is open at the specified times and support volunteers and other members of the team.

Whilst assist with booking in of visitors in line with our client and the prison's procedures and encourage families to access support for their needs by interacting with visitors, offering information and advice as appropriate on a confidential basis.

You will also identify first time visitors and ensure they are provided with enhanced support and reassurance.
Lastly, you will develop an area in the visitors centre for children which may include displays of children's art work, relevant posters and information, as well as toys and other materials to engage children before and after a visit.
