Physiotherapist Band 5 / 6

Physiotherapist Band 5/6 - £28,200 - £31,200 per annum – New Ollerton, Nottinghamshire – Full / Part Time Permanent.

We are advertising for a client that goes the extra mile in every aspect of the care and facilities they provide, and that is especially true in recruiting and training their staff. You will be working in a modern, well equipped, multidisciplinary environment for people of working age with complex care, rehabilitation and/or life limiting physical conditions.

This would suit a physiotherapist who has experience of medical/respiratory and/or neuro-rehabilitation.

You must have current C.S.P. and H.C.P.C. registration.

JOB SUMMARY

To work within a small therapy team to provide high quality patient focussed care through assessment, diagnosis, development and delivery of individual treatment programmes. To take the responsibility for own caseload, within a defined area of service or for a particular patient type. To provide assistance in the supervision, support and education of unqualified staff and students. To participate in departmental audit in support of evidence based practice

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES.

Clinical

• To undertake clinical assessment, including risk analysis, of patients presenting simple and complex pathologies over a wide range of specialties.
• To use basic clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to establish accurate diagnosis.
•  To use judgemental skills and comprehensive knowledge of physiotherapy treatments to formulate individual treatment programmes based on evidence of best practice.
• To demonstrate skill and expertise in the delivery of treatments to patients by interpretation of sensory feedback and the use of handling, manual physiotherapy techniques and exercise therapy.
• To regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment plan and adjust the treatment accordingly.
•  To use clinical knowledge to formulate a prognosis and recommend an appropriate course of action and discharge plan.
• To maintain comprehensive, accurate and contemporaneous treatment records including valid consent appropriate to the intervention.
•  To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Communications

•  To communicate effectively, verbally and through touch, with patients to maximise rehabilitation potential.
• Communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation and gaining informed consent will be used with a variety of patients. To assess capacity, gain valid consent and to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment. Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident e.g. loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia, visual and mental disabilities, depression, pain and fear.
• To use written information to reinforce understanding of the patient’s condition and the involvement in the treatment process.
•  To liaise with medical, nursing staff and other health care professionals regarding patient care.
•  To liaise and where appropriate advise patients, carers and relatives regarding patient care.
• To liaise with members of the multidisciplinary team and attend MDT meetings.

RISK ASSESSMENT

This post involves frequent Manual Handling activities e.g. hoisting patients, positioning patients for treatment and function, assisting standing, transferring patients from bed to chair, giving physical support during walking practice and exercise and occasional pushing of wheelchairs or large items of equipment. There is a constant requirement for moderate physical effort, including repetitive techniques. Frequent close contact with patients exposes the post holder to infections and body fluids e.g. sputum, urine, blood and faeces. There is frequent need for prolonged concentration and occasional involvement in emotionally distressing situations e.g. treatment of terminally ill patients or those with a poor prognosis.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge and Qualifications

•  Hold a Physiotherapy degree, be registered with the CSP and the Health Professions Council.
•  Sound knowledge of care planning and its practical application.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety, particularly Moving and Handling techniques, Fire Safety and COSHH.
•  Knowledge and Understanding of Care Standards Act 2000 and other relevant legislation.
