Salary: £16,924 - £19,087 full time equivalent pro-rata per annum (actual £10,154 - £11,452 per annum)

The following enhancements are applicable:

  • Weekend working Time and One Half
  • Bank Holiday working Double Time

Hours of work: Part Time.

Normal hours are a minimum of 22.5 hours per week, worked over 3 days out of 7 and various shifts from 08.00 – 18.00. 

Shift times are generally 08.00 – 16.00 or 10.00 – 18.00. 

All shifts have a 1 x 30 minute unpaid break

Bank holidays are normal working days (with the wage enhancement details above) and there will be a need for some weekend working (with the wage enhancement details above)

About us:

Dove House Hospice is a charity providing excellent care for people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire with life limiting illnesses. We are specialists in palliative care which is the total care of patients whose illness is no longer curable and for whom the goal must be quality of life.

The Challenge:

Working as part of the catering team, we are looking for a cook who will be required to prepare, cook and serve a wide range of dishes for patients, children, staff, visitors/customers and functions/training courses in accordance with agreed menus.

The requirements:

We are looking for Cooks/Chefs with the following:

  • Up to date basic Food Hygiene certificate
  • NVQ 2 Catering and Hospitality (Food preparation and cooking). Candidates who do not hold the essential qualifications must be willing to acquire them once in post.
  • Experience of working in a caring environment
  • Experience of food preparation
  • Ability to provide meals on an individualised basis and have knowledge of special diets
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work within a customer focus service
  • Good listening skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Some knowledge and awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations
  • Ability to embody and live the hospice values: United we will be: positive, professional and passionate
  • Friendly, caring attitude
  • Flexible approach to working hours and be able to work weekends, shifts and bank holidays.
