Childcare Co-ordinator

Responsible to: Head of Centre, Gamesley Early Excellence Centre

Job Purpose:

To work as part of a team in order to provide an outstanding enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn. To build and maintain strong partnership working with parents to enable children’s needs to be met. To be responsible for the all year round management, staffing, organisation and provision of flexible childcare in the Centre, for children from birth to 11 years (full day care and out of school provision).

To help us develop and progress the aims and purpose of the Community Interest Company by providing additional services to the local community children through community development such as adult and toddler groups and toy library services.

The centre closes for 1 week over the Christmas period and the 4 days following the August Bank Holiday. The childcare co-ordinator will be expected to work and to assume management responsibilities during school holidays.

Pay scale: £25,000 per annum

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To be an excellent childcare practitioner and model outstanding practice to the childcare team
  • To allocate childcare places
  • To be responsible for a well-planned stimulating environment throughout the Centre
  • To lead and motivate the childcare team to provide high quality planning, leading to high quality educational and care provision
  • To ensure that monitoring, assessment, record keeping and documentation is in line with the Early Years Foundation stage and Ofsted inspection frameworks, including the implementation of theoretical approaches
  • To be deputy safeguarding lead and to have responsibility for child protection and safeguarding during school holidays
  • To ensure health, safety and well-being of all children, parents, staff and visitors
  • To be responsible for the management and organisation of childcare staff. This involves staff rota’s, managing attendance i.e. monitoring sickness and organising cover for annual leave/TOIL and sickness
  • To work with parents as partners in their child’s care and development and learning
  • To be a member of the Senior Leadership Team.  To be responsible for sharing with room leaders relevant and key information
  • To provide cover to enable room leaders to carry out duties in line with their additional roles and responsibilities
  • To lead induction, supervision, appraisal, professional development and personal welfare of childcare staff
  • To co-ordinate the training and mentoring of students and apprentices
  • Working with the directors to support the development of the Community Interest Company and additional child and community activities such as applying for grants, gaining additional funding and marketing
  • To keep up to date with the current thinking related to working with children and families
  • To carry out duties and responsibilities of the post with regard to all Centre Policies
  • To perform any other duties as may be reasonably requested by Head of Centre in relation to the post

Pay scales are based on 52 weeks per year at 37 hours per week unless stipulated otherwise, staff members will be paid on a pro-rata basis dependant on what hours they work or contracted to.
