Contract: 1 x Permanent, full-time
Salary: GBP37,800 - GBP51,000 depending on experience

What it's about As a Senior Research Manager you will join a well-respected and diverse research team, and will find many exciting opportunities for professional development. You will identify and conduct to high scientific and technical standards a range of research activities related to examinations, products and services offered by Cambridge Assessment English. Key areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, language assessment, test validation, quantitative data analysis techniques and language learning. As a Senior Research Manager you will also engage with a wide range of audiences to showcase Cambridge Assessment English research and expertise.

What you'll be doing Your principal accountabilities will be to:
  • Identify, in consultation with other business functions, and conduct research activities needed to ensure that specific products, product design features and performance objectives meet business objectives and are of high scientific and technical standards.
  • Provide a research perspective on issues related to the development of specific exams, learning products, skill areas, technology areas or other areas of interest to the organization.
  • Develop robust quantitative research methodologies, implement research investigations and report upon the research investigations undertaken.
  • Identify and conduct research in the areas of digital language learning and assessment to support the growth and diversification of Cambridge Assessment English.
  • Assist in raising the academic profile of Cambridge Assessment English by publishing research and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, such as academics, teachers, admissions personnel and policy makers.
  • Plan work schedules, assign tasks and delegate responsibilities involved in research projects.

What we're looking for Qualifications Essential: PhD or EdD in a relevant field, e.g. language assessment, applied linguistics, educational measurement or related field. Applicants near PhD completion will be considered as well.
  • Strong quantitative research skills
  • Sound understanding of language assessment and test validation
  • Using data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R, Python)
  • Effective written and oral communication skills to explain research and ideas to both specialist and non- specialist audiences
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and confidence in managing professional relationships, both internally in the organisation and externally
  • Ability to prioritise effectively
  • Developing robust research methodologies, implementing research investigations and reporting upon the research investigations undertaken
  • Planning and conducting large-scale research projects
  • Planning and conducting test validation projects
  • Using relevant data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R, Python)
  • Writing effective reports and publications
  • Giving presentations to specialist and non-specialist audiences
  • Managing projects, incl. planning work schedules, assigning tasks and delegating responsibilities involved in research projects
