As a vital part of NHSScotland, NHS National Services Scotland's mission is to enable and support the delivery of better health and better care, working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care. As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale through our leading position in new product development biomedical research and donor / clinical services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.
We are looking for a friendly, confident and outgoing nurse to provide quality-nursing care for the regional Clinical Apheresis Unit based at the Royal infirmary Edinburgh. You will become a member of the nursing team helping to deliver the apheresis service including blood stem cell harvesting, plasma and red cell exchange. Venepuncture and cannulation skills are desirable and good communication skills are essential for this role. All apheresis training will be provided. Experience in a closely related field such as Haematology or Renal nursing could be advantageous but not essential.
This post will primarily be based at the Edinburgh Clinical Apheresis unit. However, travel to other sites across Scotland e.g. Dundee and Glasgow is required to meet service needs. Provision of a car can be arranged for travel out with Edinburgh. This is a 37.5 hours per week post worked over a 5 day period Mon-Fri. Following training you would be expected to participate in the Clinical Apheresis unit on call rota, (currently 1 in 4) to assist in the provision of an "out of hours" service including weekends, for emergency procedures.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Candidates must have current NMC registration at the time of applying.

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.

For an informal discussion on the post, please contact Moira Anderson, Senior Charge Nurse on .
