THE ROLE We are recruiting a Pricing and Profitability Analyst to join our Finance department based in our Sheffield office. The role will be responsible for providing pricing and profitability support to Partners including modelling of pricing scenarios, tracking support provided and advising on alternative fee arrangements. You will ensure our Partners have a greater understanding of the financial impact of the work we are undertaking for our clients and to support our Partners with regard to winning new and profitable business. The role will sit within our Pricing and Profitability team which is responsible for providing guidance to the business with regard to pricing; including modelling scenarios, calculating fee arrangements and the impact of value added services in order to assess potential profitability. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the formulation of alternative fee arrangements when requested, for example fixed fees, blended rates, capped fees. This will include obtaining details from the Client Relationship Partner of the scope of the engagement with the client i.e. jurisdictions and practice groups involved, billing currency, length of engagement, expected gearing including % partner time Proactively contact partners to obtain details of pricing being offered and critically assess impact (this will include reviewing the daily pitch notification e-mail) Assist in the creation of pricing models / scenarios based on the information obtained including calculating the expected contribution based on the pricing proposals Maintain a tracking tool of pricing support offered to assist partners when pricing clients within a similar sector, similar expected fee income Follow up with pitch team / partners with regard to result of pitch and liaising with charge out rates team / billing co-ordinator with regard to agreed rates Review new client relationships and profitability to assess whether scope has changed Support the roll-out and training of partners in the new client/matter profitability dashboards and help embed the new profitability metric Client relationship management: additional financial analysis and support for selected key clients highlighting areas of concern, regular communication with client relationship partner and marketing manager to analyse quarterly results SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES Ideally be working towards completion of an Accounting qualification or be a Qualified Accountant Demonstrate a professional approach, which is demonstrated by high levels of customer service and a determination to get the job done Be at ease communicating with Partners and have the confidence to explain and justify results of modelling Be able to display a consistently positive attitude and adopt a 'can do' approach as well as being able to work well on own initiative and also as part of a wider team Possess a high level of written and oral communication skills Be able to demonstrate the necessary interpersonal skills to deal frequently with other teams within finance and other support areas: HR / BD / Marketing, explaining concepts to non-Finance staff Exhibit well developed project management skills and the ability to manage conflicting timescales and priorities Work well within the team to support the delivery of any time critical projects Be IT literate with excellent Excel skills demonstrating use of pivot tables, v-lookups, macros etc THE FIRM DLA Piper is a global law firm with lawyers located in more than 40 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
