[Purpose of the Role]

Responsible for overseeing the overall management of the cinema on a day to day basis. Managing all operational issues relating to the cinema including leading and motivating the team and maximising profitability to achieve sales/revenue targets.

[Role Responsibilities]

  • To manage all aspects of the cinema’s operations on day-to-day basis to ensure that your venue delivers an unforgettable cinema experience – for the right reasons!
  • Drive cinema and business Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) such as spend per head or admissions and control costs.
  • Lead by example - always demonstrating Curzon Brand Values and ensuring staff do the same.
  • Look for opportunities to motivate and encourage the cinema team, in collaboration with Head Office to deliver and exceed the targets set for the cinema.
  • Act as an ambassador for Curzon at all times, including other areas of the business such as Curzon Home Cinema and Curzon Artificial Eye and ensure the rest of your team are doing the same.
  • Be a problem solver, deal with all customer queries. Look for creative ways to find a positive outcome with the customer experience always being the primary driver.
  • Work with the central Marketing team to ensure that your venue, events and products are fully marketed both at venue and through the relevant social media channels.
  • Induct and train new members of the Curzon team using your expertise to provide guidance and support in accordance with Curzon values to staff and managers.
  • Work with the Events and the cinema teams to provide a professional experience for any clients using Curzon as a venue to host an event.
  • Ensure that you and all members of the cinema team have a thorough working knowledge of all Curzon products and look for opportunities to promote and sell them, including membership, food and Beverage and CHC.
  • Take professional pride in how you, the cinema team and the cinema looks.
  • Work with your General Manager colleagues in a supportive and collaborative way to ensure the best outcome for the cinemas as a whole.
  • To liaise with central support functions, external contractors/bodies etc on matters relating to the successful operation of the cinema.
  • To liaise with the Senior Management to provide all relevant operational information, reports etc. to help in driving the cinema performance.
  • Look for ways to improve your cinema and the business as a whole.
  • Act as the conduit between Head Office and your team to ensure that relevant information is shared in both directions.
  • To effectively direct, lead & motivate the management team including setting objectives and ensuring appropriate levels of training and development.
  • Manage the recruitment, training and induction of new cinema staff in line with the brand values to ensure we are hiring great hosts.
  • To oversee the management of any staffing issues at the cinema, with the guidance of Human Resources, ensuring that employment legislation is adhered to at all times.
  • To establish and maintain relations with the local community, businesses and media to enhance the image of the company and to inform them of relevant developments within the company, its products and services.
  • Developing opportunities for maximising revenue from Alternative Content.
  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks, appropriate to this role, as requested.

[General Responsibilities]

  • To comply with Curzon’s policies and general operational standards and procedures at all times.
  • To be vigilant at all times and know the lines of communication and emergency procedures, taking appropriate action to ensure Personal safety and security as well as that of customers and colleagues.
  • To be aware of all Health and Safety and licensing requirements to ensure that they are adhered to so that the company’s responsibilities are not compromised.
  • To undertake appropriate training and professional development as determined by your managers.
  • To support the cinema management team in the management and efficient operation of the venue as directed by the General Manager, including performing appraisals when required.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required for an efficient cinema operation.

[Person Specification]

  • Previous experience of successful management in the cinema industry.
  • Proven experience of successfully leading and motivating a team to meet business targets.
  • A detailed understanding of the cinema industry including knowledge of digital cinema and 3D.
  • Strong and effective communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees and senior managers.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of financial information with the ability to meet or exceed budgets.
  • Desire to provide top class customer service at all times.
  • Demonstrable ability to delegate tasks and organise a team of people in a fast-paced bespoke customer service environment.
  • Flexibility and a ‘can-do’ attitude with a positive and proactive approach to change.
  • Professional demeanour, dedicated work ethic, self-motivated, shows initiative & attention-to-detail.
  • Ability to work under own initiative to drive business performance.
  • A genuine and demonstrable interest in film, cinema and a passion for Curzon and what it stands for.
  • A drive to make Curzon the best independent cinema company in the UK .
  • The willingness to work a variety of shift patterns as required by the business needs, including evenings and weekends.
  • Experience of developing employees and managers through training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Experience of recruiting and managing staff, with an awareness of good HR practice.
  • Previous experience of running successful marketing campaigns.
  • Technology literate.
