The role The Risk and Compliance team are tasked with delivering the firm's objectives in reducing risk and achieving across the board compliance with regulatory and statutory obligations. The primary role of the Risk and Compliance Officer is to assist the firm in achieving its objectives around compliant file opening, in particular Client Due Diligence (CDD) procedures. Tasks and responsibilities This entails but is not limited to: Analysing CDD requirements for clients and advising the fee earners and secretaries; Undertaking the CDD gathering from clients directly and/or assisting fee earners or secretaries on their gathering of CDD from clients; Carefully analysing the information that is being provided to determine whether further CDD is needed; Running PEP, Sanctions and adverse media checks against clients including Directors and beneficial owners of clients and analysing results; Where necessary creating profiles of clients for MLRO decision making and/or record keeping; Uploading CDD gathered into the firm's on-boarding system; Completing the Risk and Compliance part of the firm's client risk assessment; Conducting 'reverse' sanctions checks by obtaining the new sanctions lists periodically and running the names through the database and reporting on the results; Reporting trends regarding CDD queries to identify ongoing training needs; Providing or assisting with training to employees on CDD requirements and Money Laundering; Assisting in the ongoing monitoring of high risk clients and upkeep of the high risk register; Providing ad hoc administrative assistance to the team when required; Getting involved in a variety of projects that the team undertake. Technical skills/experience Essential A good understanding of CDD requirements for various client types and a working knowledge of the Money Laundering Regulations. Prior experience in undertaking the tasks outlined in this job description. Strong communication skills and polite client friendly manner. Ability to work under pressure. Excellent overall IT skills. Desirable Previous experience working in a law firm or within the regulatory area. Previous experience working with Elite, File Site, Mattersphere and Accuity. International Compliance Association qualification in Money Laundering.
