Infrastructure, Projects and Energy Lawyer - Manchester
Who are we? We advise on innovative, complex projects, commercial contracts, procurements, and outsourcings, which are frequently in the headlines. Our client base includes Government Departments, Foundation Trusts, SPVs, local authorities, and infrastructure providers across the UK. Our three UK offices (London, Leeds and Manchester) work as one business unit, meaning associates have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects work. The key thread of what we do is that most of our work is bespoke and not by reference to standard form documents. Each day can be different but people have the choice as they progress to specialise in areas they enjoy most. In line with the firm's overall strategy we have teams focussing on transport, healthcare and energy but our range of work extends beyond these areas. Our team comprises people from both projects and non projects transactional backgrounds, for example, banking, commercial, construction and corporate. Whilst ours is a fast moving and innovative area of law we ensure that there is a continued focus on training and development to support career advancement. The work often involves travelling and also being able to see the result of the work, whether that is a power station, a new railway station or essential social and health facilities such as a new hospital. What do we do each day? The sort of work we do includes: • High profile advice for the Department of Transport on rail franchising • Closing the largest renewable heat deal in the UK for an investment fund (FT front page) • Advising Network Rail on High Speed 2 (Frequently on the front page!) • Being one of only 3 core panel members to Scottish & Southern Energy (Lead, The Lawyer) • Advising international public sector entities such as the Danish Government on a bridge procurement • Advising public sector entities such as OFGEM and DECC on regulatory matters • Acting for a consortium of Manchester City Council, Central Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester NHS CCG and the GP Federation bidding for a GBP6bn NHS Contract currently in procurement across Manchester • Advising Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in the establishment of a subsidiary company, NHFML, to support tax efficiencies and estates rationalisation • Acting for Clatterbridge Cancer Care NHS Foundation Trust in the development of a new specialist cancer centre. What are the opportunities for me? We are implementing a plan to be a market leader in healthcare, local government and large infrastructure, including rail and transport. We are expanding rapidly and an expanding market space always leads to opportunities. We have an opportunity for a newly qualified - 2 PQE lawyer to join our team. Why should I be interested? If you are interested in innovative, fast paced, challenging work where every day is different this role is for you. If you thrive in taking on responsibility and you are ambitious career prospects are excellent at all levels and we have a track record of our teams being promoted, rewarded and recognised throughout the firm where talent is valued.
