Finding your first full time position as a primary school teacher can be a daunting and difficult process. There are a myriad of schools and options available to trainee teachers across the West Midlands, all with different challenges and benefits.

On top of this every newly qualified primary teacher has different needs, expectations and areas for development that will shape their foundation year and choice of school.

What I have learnt - placing NQTs in to schools - over the past five years is that the most important factor determining success is that trainees are placed in schools that are supportive. Schools where the senior leadership team understand the pressures and demands that newly qualified teachers face and have the experience and commitment to help them overcome any such hurdles.

As an NQT it doesn't matter how good a school is on paper or how good their Ofsted rating is if they aren't dedicated to nurturing the talent within their school. As an NQT you have earnt the right to be placed in a school that isn't simply going to leave you to get on with the job but is there, right beside you, ensuring your journey to QTS is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

I work with a number of primary schools across South Birmingham that offer newly qualified teachers a personalised NQT induction and training programme. I also work with schools that are keen to find the best teachers for their school in January and February before the mad rush in the summer. That allows you to opportunity to find a good school early on so you can spend the rest of the academic year concentrating on your PGCE and placements.
