The Service Onboarding Engineer position is part of Hosting Services Group (HSG) within Advanced Engineering Group (AEG) at Yorktel having responsibility of onboarding customers as per agreed upon SOW with customers. Deploying and maintaining proactive monitoring systems and applications in the Cloud Data centers. The Service Onboarding Engineer reports to the VP of Hosting Services.

The position is a multi-role position, with two core roles defined below, a rough indication of time spent on each core role is illustrated to give an estimate.

Primary Role: Service Onboarding = 40%

Secondary Role: Systems Administration = 60%

There are times and opportunities that also requires this position to perform other roles outside those defined here in times of need, such as assisting the Design, Implementation and Support teams, in providing technical assistance or guidance. As these are unplanned events, they occur on an as/when basis.

Primary Role: Service Onboarding

The primary role of Service Onboarding Engineer position is to execute onboarding processes and procedures for Cloud/Managed Services clients by working closely with the Project Management and Technical Support teams. Onboarding consists of interfacing with the customer and other internal teams to gather relevant customer information and coordinate onboarding activities.

Secondary Role: Systems Administration

The secondary role for this position is complete life cycle management of the applications (proactive monitoring, scheduling) maintained by HSG. Maintains application security, and configurations. Troubleshoot application performance issues and creates and maintains a disaster recovery plan. Recommends upgrades, patches, new equipment. Provides technical support and guidance to Implementation and Support teams.

The Service onboarding role requires broad technical knowledge and skills in all technologies used by Hosting Services, both network and server deployment and administration. Strong written and verbal communications internally and externally are essential. The ability to research, analyze and compile complex issues for escalation and attention within the Hosting services group.

The Service onboarding engineer should possess deep understanding of the services provided to the customer, expert knowledge on the Hosted Services proactive monitoring platform. This role will manage the configuration, administration, and escalation of events discovered by the proactive monitoring system and will make decisions related to service outages. In some instances, immediate actions will need to be taken to minimize risk or restore services.

Having a good understanding and experience with the following is essential;

* Networking (e.g. LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, SNMP, VPN etc)

* Cisco CCNA level desirable

* ITIL Foundation level desirable

* Microsoft and Linux Operating Systems

* Cisco Collaboration Technologies

* Proactive monitoring Tools

* MS SQL Server, mySQL

This position will have the authority to provide input on processes and procedures within the department. This position will have the ability to resolve issues and will be expected to escalate and assign issues to the appropriate team member or department that are beyond the Engineer's technical proficiency/scope.
