Role
We have an opportunity for a Structural Engineer who has recently achieved or is close to achieving Chartership status via ICE or IStructE (or equivalent), and who is looking for technically challenging work on cutting-edge projects, to join our creative and friendly growing Building Engineering Team based in our Winchester office to work as part of our Buildings West Region.
Our Winchester office now employs 45 staff and we have just extended the office to allow space for a further 25 staff. We have exciting growth plans for the next five years as we look to expand and win new projects. You will play a key role in continuing to build the business; working as part of project teams to deliver value to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
Your role will be challenging and varied, with opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects in a multi discipline environment. Your role will be to contribute to a dynamic, challenging and stimulating environment with a myriad of opportunities to apply your growing knowledge and expertise to a range of exciting projects. You will be involved in feasibility, design and site stage activities of major and minor building projects (new and refurbishment)
•Working as part of a team to carry out hands on design for a variety of projects
•Use of technical analysis and design software packages
•Working alongside project managers to support day to day running of projects
•Liaison with architects, suppliers and contractors
•Attending and contributing to project meetings (internal and external)
•Working with the technician team to prepare and produce drawings
•Producing reports and correspondence
•Resolution of site queries
•Site inspections and surveys
•Working directly with clients and other specialists with minimum supervision
•Co-ordinating and liaising with engineers in other areas of the business in a variety of disciplines
•Technical supervision and coaching of more junior members of the team
•Facilitating and organising meetings and CPD training events to contribute to your own development and the development of others
•Representing Arup in links with local schools and universities
Currently the Winchester Building Engineering Team is involved in a wide range of projects across the South Coast, from Bournemouth to Brighton and in land as far as Reading, from concept design through to practical completion covering commercial, education, residential, hotels and leisure and many other specialist building types.
Requirements and Skills

Qualifications:
•Master's degree qualified (2:1 or above preferred) in a relevant subject e.g. MEng, or equivalent
•Working towards gaining chartered status through your chosen professional institution or recently achieved.
Skills and Capabilities
Essential:
•A passion for structural engineering and enthusiasm for a career in design
•Be able to design and deliver structural engineering solutions on major and/or complex projects
•Have a track record of working on varied and complex buildings
•Excellent technical skills combined with practical understanding of buildings and construction
•Aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
•Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills
•Ability to work with the highest calibre of both UK based and international Architects and understand architectural intent.
•Shown success in contributing to a team orientated environment
•Highly motivated and willing to learn and take on new challenges, enthusiastic about developing your skills and experiences
•Keen to share knowledge and contribute to the development of others
•Experience of working with Eurocodes
•A good understanding of industry software packages
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges
Desirable:
•A good awareness of building design beyond own discipline
•Experience of working with other disciplines which influence structural design such as Building Services and Geotechnics
•Seek to improve existing ways of working by finding efficiencies in processes
•Commercial awareness and keen to learn about the business side of our operations
•Enthusiasm in driving a Digital agenda including automation via software such as Revit to deliver organisational value, as well as utilising visualisation tools to communicate engineering concepts.
•Experience of working on construction sites
•Full UK Driving Licence
