1625 Independent People prevents youth homelessness in the South West and has been helping 16-25 year olds reboot their lives for over 30 years. With around 100 staff in four locations, we provided housing and support to around 2000 young people last year.
We’re one of the brightest youth organisations in the South West, leaders in our field, no other organisation in the area has the same wealth of experience.

Terms, conditions and benefits:
- Hours per week : Full time 40 hours
- Contract type: Permanent
- Pay: £27,668 - £30,153 per year (NJC Scale 31 - 34), starting at the bottom of the scale
- 30 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays

- There is a requirement to work flexibly as required, which will include occasional evening and weekend work and participation in the managers’ on call rota
Where and who?
You’ll be leading the Foyer team and be line managed by the Operations Business Manager. You will be based at the Foyer in Central Bristol.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead one of our high support teams who provide supported accommodation for homeless young people (including care leavers) within one of our two higher support hostels, located in central Bristol.
In this role you will lead the operational delivery of support to 51 young people providing reflective supervision to your team and direct reports. You will robustly manage, monitor and report on service delivery and performance, encompassing support and housing management, reflecting psychologically informed approaches that promote positive outcomes for young people.
You will be skilled and confident to assess and manage risk as well as being passionate about joint working with our participation, learning, EET and other specialist workers as well as partner agencies, particularly leaving care teams and housing access teams, to provide seamless holistic support for young people.
You will inspire our team of Project Workers, Weekend Housing Assistants, Night Workers, and Maintenance Workers supported by our wider operational managers and the Foyer’s Senior Project Worker and Nights Team Leader.
A typical day would include:
- Supporting, motivating and supervising staff, to deliver high quality housing and support services - ensuring the effective and timely allocation of support and maintaining a responsive service for young people with diverse and complex needs.
- Leading partnership work with internal services and partner agencies to ensure that services meet young people’s needs in a co-ordinated way - including closely working with partners, such as Children and Young People’s Services, Registered Providers and BCC’s Housing Advice Team - to ensure services are successfully joined up.
- Enabling young people to be involved in and have a voice in service and organisational development.
- Leading the team in the implementation of psychologically informed support, that enables young people to develop trusting relationships and develop belief in their ability to achieve.
You have empathy and understanding of the needs of homeless young people, young people leaving care, and the barriers they face. You like being around and working with young people.
You have significant experience of working with vulnerable people and an understanding of psychologically informed approaches in this area of work.
You have demonstrable experience of managing a supported housing scheme or a relevant management or leadership role.
You enjoy and are successful at managing projects, able to work under pressure and achieve agreed goals.
You are skilled and experienced in managing and leading staff and are a highly effective communicator.
You are confident in making effective decisions that safeguard and promote the welfare of young people and manage risk.
