A vacancy has arisen for an experience, motivated individual to join our Technical & Compliance team. A minimum of 5 years' experience in facilities involved in the management of radioactive wastes is required. Reporting directly to the Head of Technical & Compliance, you will be part of our core capability based at our nuclear licensed site in west Cumbria, although occasional business travel will be required. You will have strong interpersonal and influencing skills, have the ability to interact with Customers and build on a good customer network is essential.

Main Responsibilities

You must be a certified Radiation Protection Adviser. You must have experience of working with low level radioactive waste in the nuclear industry and have a passion for positive and responsible waste management.

  • Maintaining and improving arrangements for compliance against the Ionising Radiations Regulations and industry good and best practice
  • Providing radiation protection advice to Cyclife
  • Providing practical radiation protection advice to Cyclife Operations and Health Physics
  • Line management responsibility for the Health Physics function.
  • Training, coaching and mentoring staff on good radiation protection practise.
  • Participating in and leading on the development of ALARP and dose assessment studies. Support to the production of documentation in support of contracts and tenders.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance within Cyclife UK Limited Management Systems
  • Liaise with suppliers, clients and regulators as required.

As you will be operating as part of a multi-disciplined team, you will also be expected to be involved in the following:

  • Reviewing Customer waste information and providing input into treatment and disposability studies
  • Undertaking technical assessment of low level radioactive waste to determine the most appropriate treatment and / or disposal route.
  • Providing radioactive waste management advice and support to all of Cyclife's business areas.

Desirable skills, aptitudes and experience

  • Science-based degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Certified Radiation Protection Adviser.
  • At least 5 years' professional radiation protection experience in a facility involved in the management of radioactive wastes.
  • Good written and oral communication and presentational skills, such that information provided is delivered in a readily understandable format.
  • The ability to liaise / communicate with staff at all levels across the organisation to reach agreement on work specification planning and delivery requirements.
  • Sound knowledge of health physics instruments
  • A high attention to detail.
